Getting to Minimum Award Level

As a frequent traveller with status with LX and AF, in my enthusiasm for FFPs I signed my mother and sister up for Asia Miles. That was a couple of years ago, when we still had family in Hong Kong and a need to use CX (I always credited to LX Travelclub).

However, with about 16,000 miles in each of their accounts, and with them living now in the UK, I wondered if you had any tips for getting them up to award level on BA. It would seem that non-airline activities don't count for much if you're not a resident of Hong Kong (with LX there are many opportunities with non-airline activities).

It would seem that you can do little with 15,000 miles (except Hong Kong to Taiwan), so I need to get them up to 25,000 in order to claim an award from, say, Scotland to Europe.

I don't understand how mileage credit with BA works. According to Asia Miles' mileage calculator, it would seem that you get "actual" miles for European flights with BA (unlike a minimum 1,000 with other programmes), and I wonder if BA exclude most Y fares. Any suggestions?

BA has almost obvilarated full miles on most economy class fares. Some get 25%, some get nothing.

You can get a BA redemption for 15,000 Asia miles - I booked a MAN - DUS return trip in economy with some expiring miles last year. Best to call the service centre if you can't make head nor tail of the award chart.

Don't forget, the iles can be redeemed for anyone listed on the account, so if you mother and sister aren't travelling, then finding someone else may be a better use.

Many thanks.. I recall checking the mileage calculator, and it telling me that I needed 25,000 miles for most routes in Europe, including domestic UK ones. I wonder if I could make MAN-FRA for 15,000, as I am now based in Germany and that could be useful.

It's a shame BA are so determined not to award points like other airlines do. It would seem that nothing will deter them from pursuing high-yield passengers only. I wonder what will happen to LX's Travelclub programme when that is almalgamated with BAEC this year.
