Which seats to request?
Hi all,
I'm new to flying Cathay, but will be taking a trip in March, and wanted your thoughts on which seat(s) are worth requesting for the long haul flights.
We can only afford economy this time around (L class), but I'm sure the experts have good advice for making the trip a little nicer... (g)
We're on an A340-300 from YVR-HKG, then an A340-600 from HKG to SYD, an A330-300 from SYD to HKG and a 747-400 from HKG back to YVR.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before we ask for seat assignments.
Also, what kinds of service/amenities can one expect? The Cathay experience is a new one to us, as long time AC customers.
Thanks!

On any airbus fleet, the layout is 2-4-2 so any 2 seaters are great for couples. Avoid bulkheads (my personal opinion). The exit seats aren't too bad, but once again, I prefer not to sit on them.
On 747, if eyour flight is 74J, then go with row 36, which shares same cabin with Biz class and last time I saw it (although I didn't "sit" on them) it looked spacious. OR, you can go with row 66 or 67 which are 2 seaters nice for couples.
Judging from your aircraft info, it seems you are doing a same-day connection at HKG, is it? (34C->346 in evening outbound, 333->74J on return around 4pm)... If you time is flexible, I would suggest taking leaving SYD in the afternoon to catch 346, which is a very very nice new aircraft. Even in Y-class, you get a much larger PTV and the seats are new. Then stay a night in HKG, and catch next day's flight to YVR. Just my 2cents...

Thanks for the suggestions, especially re: row 36. Sounds like it's worth trying for.
I agree with your notes on bulkheads in almost any acft, based on the 'box' you have to sit in owing to the tray table in the armrest. And as long as the seats are in that forward economy cabin, I'm usually happy.
I'll give our agent a call and see what we can get assigned.
Thanks!
