Upgrade availability

I'm trying to get down to Perth next week for the rugby, using AsiaMiles to upgrade. There are business class seats available for purchase, but none left for upgrades. If there are any spare seats nearer the date (Wednesday), will they then "open" them up for people to upgrade? If so, how much nearer? Is it in theory possible to go to the AsiaMiles counter at check-in and use miles to upgrade to a "revenue" biz seat? Cheers all.

Yes, probably. Not sure. Yes - er, well yes if you are a Marco Polo member - not sure for plain AsiaMiles.

MPC Silver (the trip is partly to get me to Gold by month-end...). Actually since posting, biz is full for revenue seats too for the outward trip, so I can understand their thinking. Thanks anyway Chris...

It's the Rugby Tournament.. and you're expecting to get there on award availability. Upgrades and awards use the same availability.

If economy was full and Biz is wide open, you'd most likely get upgraded if you're Silver. But now that Business is full, sorry.

Haha well I wasn't "expecting" to get upgraded with miles on what is a busy week for flights, but it was worth a try!

Thanks all...

You always have the option to upgrade at Hong Kong International Airport on the day of departure.

Even though Business Class is fully booked at the moment, there might be a "no show" in J class so you may have a chance at the airport.

Happy flying.
