question about CX/AA codeshare

this question just popped into my head while i was trying to fall asleep. anyways just got up to type this ! when flying from HKG to one of the AA codeshare cities (assuming you purchased the entire trip on CX flight #s), can you make a stopover @ any of the gateway cities before you connect onto AA metal ?

Basically the moment you stop over, the CX flight number on AA metal ceases to exist and it reverts back to AA's flight number.

But honestly, what is the big deal? You'll still get your miles no matter where you're crediting it.

you can't stopover while on CX flight numbers.
