philosophical question

Has the gap in service widened so much between business class and economy that it might make sense for CX to come up with something in between the two like BA, VS and BR ?

Wouldn't that cheapen Business then? Sort of like diluting a fine wine with water.....

I think CX's Y surpasses many other airlines intermediaries. I find their service without any gap. It's simply great all way 'round.

The only problem with CX's Y product is their 32" seat pitch, it'll be perfect if they can increase it to 34"

I prefer SQ over CX in Y (but CX over SQ in J and F). SQ's entertainment system is great. I also don't like CX's policy of running short features on short hauls. I prefer full-length films and features no matter how short a trip is, which is what SQ does on its most services.

How much capacity would CX loose by extending legroom to 34"? Well, 32->34" change is loss of 6.25%. Assuming detailing of seat configuration induce additional losses, say 7% of Y-cabin space is lost. If the flight is fully sold out, that's almost a loss of 7% revenue in average.

Great ideas for travellers, but I bet CX management would refuse.

Well, not really, since many seats in the back are don't really add much to revenue.

If an airline consistently flies with empty seats, it probably makes sense to take a few out.
