IFE Control

I don't understand why CX doesn't use movable remote control for its IFE like many other airlines have. Is it because the IFE is an older system? It is so cumbersome to play games and channel surfing on the fixed control on the armrest.

I recall the video on demand system had a moving controller right??

Maybe I'm brain dead and mixing this up with another OneWorld carrier.

Removable handsets are part of the new First and Business Class seats. The handsets are also being progressively introduced to the regional A330 Business Class, so probably the 777 Business Class will get them also. I hear that the A340-600 has the removable handsets in Economy Class as well.

In economy, it doesn't really matter if the handset is retractable or not, when the best game they can offer is "connect 4" . The entertainment system is not even AVOD. The best improvement they had in the past is changing the video to 22 channels, but nevertheless, you can still end up on old 744 with 9 channels.

Off topic slightly, but still IFE:

Didn't the 777's have the in flight camera?? I didn't see this on my last HKG-TPE flight. What other CX planes have the camera (if any now)

I've just flown on a 777-200 HKG-SIN and it did indeed have the removable IFE controllers in Business. It also (appeared to) have Emport and Empower, though I didn't test them out. Still those awful headsets and no AVOD though.

The ISM didn't switch on a camera, and I forgot to ask if it was still fitted. Sorry.

I recently flew the new AVOD on the B-747 and it had removable IFE. As an aside, I feel that the STUDIO CX system is the best in the sky at this time. The choice of AVOD is incredible!

The cameras are only installed in 777-300s. My last flight in one in January, the camera was not on for takeoff, but was on for landing.
