Qualification year
I just had a nice suprise when I checked my miles. My year runs out Feb. 28th, but I've already re-qualified, and CX has re-set my miles to 0, and the flight I took last week has been credited to the next year. I think I qualified around Feb. 10 last year, so they seem to have given me 12 months, and then started over. I thought they would be pretty strict on this, but they seem to have cut me a bit of slack. Is this unusual?

If you had remembered this earlier discussion you might not have been so surprised.

Actually, it's not that unusual... I've had that done to me a few times in the past when my requalifying milestone has been reached relatively close to the expiry date. If I requalify far earlier than the expiry date for my Diamond CX gives me double Asia Miles on all my flights till my current Diamond year runs out, which is nice of them. I must say that CX seem very generous with their Asia Miles - I recently got a letter from the Club Service Centre telling me that as their "records indicate you have been frequently selected to complete our inflight surveys... we would like to thank you for taking the time to do this by crediting your account with 15000 Asia Miles." Although it's not a lot, it's still nice to see that they appreciate that filling out those surveys a few times can get boring pretty quick...

In the past couple of years I have stopped putting my flights on MPO as soon as I have requalified for Diamond (putting them on AA instead beacause of twice the number of miles). I have written to CX asking (amongst other things) if they could suggest any reason why I might continue to put flights on MPO after requalification and they did not give me any such reason. Is this in fact a general unpublished benefit? (It didn't happen to me in my first Diamond year when I requalified within 7 months.)
(There was of course the offer from Sept 2001 to Mar 2002 when Diamond members got an extra 100% of base (Gold 50%, Silver 25% I think) Club Miles and AsiaMiles on all flights, but that was a one off as far as I know)

Until this unknown fact is given proof, I'd say it is just a rumour. CX could certainly get to retain more of its members that way instead of seeing a mass exodus towards other FF programmes.
FYI- BAEC members in Asia fare no better than MPC as their earning capabilities is the same since both use ASIAMILES.
