cx in tpe

hello. due to an enormous fare difference, i'm flying ua-cx to hkg with a connection in tpe on monday. i was hoping y'all could comment about: 1) the cx lounge in tpe (showers?) and 2) your transit experiences there (long walk?)

thanks

no problem... Both Cathay Pacific and United Airlines use terminal one at the TPE CLK airport. CLK is a pretty ancient building and the terminal one is definitely ugly. CX ground service in TPE are fair and after landing at TPE, you will follow the sign to the transit desks, which is located on the upper floor. Follow the red dots in the floor --- and then you will see the Taiwan visa office and duty free shop. And then just follow the sign to walk up the stairs or take the elevator towards the transit desk. You can get your boarding pass from the CX desk.

There is a security checkpoint located on the transit floor, which allows you to get into the gate area. The CX lounge is quite far away and you will head to take a long walk. If your connection is close, I don't recommend you to head there.

CX operates two lounges in TPE... one in the public area and second on the restricted area. First and Business class share the lounge in the restricted area (the one that you will use), which offer some comfortable sofa, some beverages, some sandwiches and Chinese style western cakes. There is no shower in the lounge, if I remember correctly. But the lounge staffs are very polite and you can ask him about it, but I doubt it because of the small size of the lounge and the ancient Terminal one's architect.

Have a great flight! The UA's Taiwanese F/As in the TPE flight are usually very friendly, which make the "not so special" flight a bit more comfortable and friendly.

Thanks for your comments, Carfield. Since there's no shower, I probably won't kill myself to check out the lounge. BTW, do you have any experience with interlining baggage at TPE?

Carfield,

I think you probably meant TPE "CKS" airport, and not "CLK".

CLK is of course the airport in HKG and in no way "ancient".....

Don't you just hate the CLK and CKS designators.

Of course, I meant TPE Chiang Kei Sek airport... CKS...

No problem with interlining... just make sure that the UA agent tags your bag to HK all the way, and the CX agent at TPE will trace your bag and place it on the correct flight. Sometimes, you even remember to put the CX priority tag on as well.
