CX RTWs?

CX gang, can you enlighten me on what RTWs are offered in combination with CX? I'm particularly interested in if there is a CX/CO RTW. Kaoru, maybe you can help me.

I know of CX/UA and CX/NW+others, but probably there's more out there...

Thanx.

As of a few months ago, I obtained some sort of CX/AA RTW fare that was different from (and cheaper than) the 1world RTW and had somewhat different restrictions relating to advance purchase, continuous direction of travel, etc.

Silver san,

Yes, there indeed exists a fairly attractive joint RTW by CX/CO. A while ago, my agent in BKK quoted me the first class fare of about $3,500US. As CO does not have F class, J class fare should be around $3,000 or so, I think. I will get the current fare quote from my agent and will let you know ASAP.

Also out of HKG, according to the current Business Traveller magazine, CX/CO fare is quoted as HK$31,840. There is also AC/CX fare
of $29,480. Both are C class fare but these prices need to be checked carefully as the magazine is notorious for posting the rather outdated fare quotes. If you are interested, there should be CX/DL as well as CX/NZ RTW fares.

Guess, we are all looking for ex-BUD alternatives!

Thanks HKG_Flyer, can you care to share some more details of the CX/AA RTW? Sounds ideal.

Thanks Kaoru, I am very happy that CX/CO RTW exists. Also, thanks for asking for updated prices, very kind of you. And, congratulations for catching the last train out of BUD!

Silver, Please wait another day before I can get you the most recent fare on CX/CO deal as this is the weekend.

Yes, I am lucky to have caught the last train out of BUD as you say. But I am sad, really, as I was really looking forward to spending some more 'quality time' at BUD next time. I would go back there had the price increase not been THAT dramatic!

Silver,

I'll talk to my HKG travel agent this week to see if the CX/AA RTW is still offered. It might have been discontinued given the popularity of the 1world RTW's, but I do recall traveling on this fare after the introduction of 1world.

Silver, here is a list of CX/CO RTW fares as of December 3, 2000. (But hurry, prices subject to change without notice!)

HKG J38800HKD, Y19450HKD
TPE J98119TWD, Y69715TWD
LHR J3015GRB, Y1877GRB
CDG J27535FRF, Y22125FRF
AMS J8492NLG, Y5675NLG
ROM J6525000ITL, Y4499000ITL
ZRH J7660CHF, Y4764CHF

Unfortunately, I was not able to locate a fare ex-BKK, as I am sure it used to exist, however. Also no ex-NRT fare.

Hope it helps you Silver! Are you planning Platinum trips on CO next year?? Their B/F is quite comfortable in comparison to other US carriers' C class. Now that I am more eager to attain EP on AA and maintain PL on CO, this fare is indeed as attractive as comfortable, particularly ex-TPE. I thought of the following route: TPE-NRT-GUM-HNL-SFO/LAX-IAH-SJU-STT-EWR-CDG-HKG-DPS-HKGx-TPE. Sure gets to see lots of Islands!

AA:Platinum now
CO:Platinum

Update of the above post:

ex-Canada J/4850CDN, Y/3330
ex-USA J/4433USD, Y/2863

Attention, however, no codeshare flights are allowed; thus eliminating all NW operated flights.

Kaoru-san.

Do you know what kind of routing restrictions exists on the CX-CO fare? Is the CX-CO RTW much more restrictive than OW RTW (the later allows backtracking with in a continent)? Also is there a 1st class RTW option on this fare (well, at least on the CX portion)?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Kaoru, I agree, ex-TPE is quite attractive. And beautiful enjoy-the-beaches itinerary! One question, is the final HKG-DPS-x/HKG part an exception to backtracking? As for ex-BKK fares, I'm asking an agent in BKK but so far no reply. Will post if I find out.

Sorry that I keep adding bits and pieces of information.

Minumum stay; 14 days ( None for ex-USA)
Maximum stay: 6 months ( 1 year for ex-USA )
Unlimited Stopovers, but backtracking allowed only when for transit, i.g., @HKG.

Reservation for the first sector of the trip must be made 7 days prior. The ticketing (payment)also must be made 7 days prior to the day of departure from the point of origin. The remaining sectors may be left OPEN.

Yes, BOAC, ( luv ur name, btw ) I believe the first class fare does exist. If you can cross Pacific on CX and just do CO over the Atlantic, it might be a very comfortable deal indeed!, As for backtracking, its best to have a proposed itinerary and check with your local/overseas agent to see if computer will accept it. I think the interpretation of backtracking might vary according to the point of origin. The routing should not be as flexible as OWE, though, as this fare does not interpret the routing in terms of a movement from a continent to another. Its more of a traditional directional routing.
But, DPS is possible, for instance.

Silver:

I tried something similar with UA/CX fare ex-BKK and was told no way. I wanted to do BKK-HKG-SIN-HKG-CDG. As they told me, "Backtrack. No allow. No allow."

Believe me, I tried.

Agree with the admonition about the "traditional" RTW tix versus the "mileage" (new style) tix. If the more restrictive old style work for you, then more the better.

One question, though. On the ex-Canada tickets (say CX/AC) are you allowed to touch the USA (e.g. YYZ-LAX/SFO-HKG-ZRH-YYZ), or are you limited as your "jumping off point" to YVR, in this instance?
