Advanced Y class seating??

Any idea how I can get emergency exit seats on CX (rows 30 or 54). Everytime I request the seat, I never get it with the excuse that they cannot reserve those seats in advance. Everytime I get to the airport the seats have been assigned. I even got to the airport and was first in line and still I did not it even when the flight was not full.

The only explanation I can see is that their are a lot of Marco Polo members flying Y class.

Any suggestions people? It's a long 15 hours top be stuck in the "new" Cathay Pacific. (I'm 6ft 3").

Dave

Are u flying to Toronto? As I know the exit rows in CX are hard to get, unless you know ppl working in CX reservation or at the check-in counter. However, there are still chances.

I am not sure which economy fare you are paying, but if you are paying B, Y or H, consider putting the miles in the AAdvantage account, as I find out that they have a very attractive award which is the upgrade award from N. America zone to HK and Asia for only 25,000 miles. It takes only 1.5 round trip to Toronto to get that 25k miles for upgrade the next time.

Even though I am not as tall as you are, I also fell cramped sitting in the coach class in CX

As a Gold Marco Polo member, I can sincerely tell you that yes, those seats are blocked off by the airline and can be assigned only on a request from reservations. As a general rule, preference is given to Marco Polo members who can have the seat released for them immediately. Preference is then given to other OneWorld elite members (Sapphire and Emerald). In the off chance you can assigned that seat, a Marco Polo member can still bump you off should his preference request for that particular seat. Okay, maybe you won't get the aisle anymore - and maybe the middle seat.

The disadvantage of those seats in the 747-400s is that seat width is shrunk by at least 2 inches because of the tv/music unit jutts out onto the seat. So you may have lots of legroom, but the width is snug!I couldn't even move when I sat on row 44H on a London-HK flight. I had the pleasure of sitting in a 'normal' seat on a SYD-HKG flight and actually found that more comfortable than the emergency exit seat!

Chatter - please note that you can only upgrade to Business Class on a full fare economy class ticket on CX using AA miles. The best award is actually the upgrade from J to F for 40K roundtrip.

If you want to attempt the Emergency Exit seating...try joining the Marco Polo Club. You only need 4 sectors I think in any case to hit Green and even Green , I think you might be able to get the Emergency Exits.

Are u sure the upgrade award only applies to full fare Y fare? I had once asked the AAdvantage agent and they told me that it applied to any Y fare

Sorry about that guys- yes, it's the A340 to YYZ from HKG.

It's the last leg of a YYZ-HKG-ADL-HKG-XMN-HKG-YYZ (2 stopover ticket 1 year validity) M Class. ($2200 CDN through Toureast Travel, Dundas St.W Toronto)

The A340 Y class seat wouldn't be so bad if they just removed the foot rests. On my Xmas flight to YYZ I ended up with bruised shins. Painful!!!!

Righto - Only one option is left for me besides joining the Marco Polo Club - A bottle of scotch.
