Nolounge wasn't condescending, he was making a practical suggestion to save everyone's time.

nolounge was obviously condescending with his tone but I think he is right to do so when you're acting as if you're entitled to something when you're not. There are even EU apps https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/pass...535428814?mt=8 and https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ity.dg.android on extraordinary circumstances and weather.

Actually nolounge does not have the right to do so as per flyertalker rules 12.1

fwiw, my relative's KA flight to HGH was cancelled tomorrow, a full 24 hours in advance. As well as apparently most KA flights before noon on the 23rd and a ton of CX flights either delayed or cancelled. It's one of the most serious proactive cancellations I've seen in a while.

Edit later: this is a massive disruption.

Completely understand. My girlfriend (a hongkonger) sent a link from The Daily Fruit indicating possibility of a T10 hitting early tomorrow morning.

Kudos to CX for the proactive WX arrangements but the point that I was trying to get at was, no one know for certain how the inclement weather would affect flight ops

Hundreds of Cathay Pacific, Cathay Dragon flights to be cancelled as Hato nears Hong Kong http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/h...e-temperatures

You can use our ticket waiver to change your travel plan to avoid
disruption."

I called Cathay but because the ticket is owned by Alaska, they can't change anything. Called alaska and they said because I already completed the first leg, nothing can be changed anymore. Not sure what I should do because both parties have told me to contact the other.

Stick to your itinerary and check upon arrival if there are any cancellations/delays for your onward flight. If yes, they will re-arrange it at the airport. If no, then you're set.

Just got an email that my flight CX780 SUB-HKG has been canceled for tomorrow.

What do you mean by 'impacted'? So far none of the HKG-SYD flights for tomorrow have been cancelled (at least based on the CX website) so there's nothing to be done as your original flight is still scheduled to operate.

I'm not sure it counts as transiting. It's a single AS award with a two week stopover in HKG. It hasn't cancelled yet, but I received the following email from Cathay.

"We are closely monitoring Tropical Cyclone Hato and its potential impact to our flight operations. Currently all flight operations remain normal, but we expect disruptions to flights in and out of Hong Kong on Wednesday, 23 August.

Special ticketing guidelines have been issued, waiving rebooking and rerouting fees; we advise customers to amend your travel plans if possible, to avoid disappointment."

I tried to follow it but calling in to see what options I had, but because it's an award ticket from AS they said I had to contact them. I called AS and they said no changes can be made after any legs have been completed. I think I will need to wait until the flight has been officially cancelled and hopefully I can go through cathay to reschedule. I was just trying to be proactive as the text and email suggested I do. But doesn't seem I am able to under the current circumstances.

A warning to folks - this is one of the more severe cancellations in some time

Whether or not it's warranted remains to be seen, but CX and KA have delayed or cancelled more flights proactively for Hato than I can remember.

I highly advise getting to the airport early to sort things out. The MPC and Reservations line have been a mess all afternoon. Sounds like no fun.

I'm on cx715 tonight, delayed to 2155 the earliest at the moment.

How is it possible to get to the airport if a signal 8 is issued?

I was told no buses or taxis operate during a signal 8?

Taxis operate but it will be off the meter.

Buses and trains will operate where possible for a T8 but everything above ground shuts down if it goes to T9/10.
