Impossible connection at HKG?

Hi All

I have a J award using AA miles on CX873 connecting to CX907 in a couple of weeks. I have been watching flightaware on CX873 and it seems for the past few weeks it is delayed 30-40 min so the 1 hr connection is reduced to less than 30 min. What is your advice? There is another CX flight HKG to MNL departing 3 hrs later - shall I ask to be waitlisted when I check in? Shall I call to see if there is availability to switch to a later flight now? Or since there is high frequency on the HKG-MNL sector not to sweat it and just see how it goes at the day of the travel and upon arrival to HKG?

Thank you

If this is on one ticket I wouldn't sweat it. You'll simply be put on the later flight if the first becomes unmanageable.

Yes - all is one ticket. The only thing of concern is how full is the J CX901 HKG -MNL on a Thursday morning - so if my spouse and I had to be put on that one it would not be an issue?

I think this has been discussed many times here... For one ticket, you just don't panic.

If there wouldn't be a fee involved, it would be better to change to a later flight, so you can have a shower and some proper breakfast at HKG.

However, if changing would cost you much, let CX worry about which flight to put you on instead. You will be look after at HKG if inbound flight delayed.

6am is actually a very quite time for HKG, so I guess the only cause of the delay for last few days could be wind to strong or bad weather on the way, which will likely to change.

You will be fine, don't worry.

CX901 is always full in Economy and always half empty in Business. All the Diamonds (and most of the Golds I think) get bumped up all the time. (I fly on it regularly). I wouldn't worry. You will be rebooked before you even land if the plane is late. And flights to Manila are often late themselves (not 901, but the afternoon flights certainly). HK is an easy airport to transit through provided you get moving as soon as you land.
