Baggage allowance question

Just to confirm - for passenger travelling in J class (no status) LHR_CDG(on bA _transit)_(on CX) HKG on award ticket issued before Sept 2016, the checked baggage allowance is per the first segment which is BA J class and that is 2 x 32 Kg. Correct? Thank you.

MSC is CX CDG to HKG. So I believe it should follow CX allowance, i.e., 30kg for a J ticket issued before 15 September, 2016.

But according to the CX site the significant carrier is the one that checks in?!

But according to this, the MSC is the flight that first crosses an IATA tariff area, which in your case, would be when you cross from Europe into Asia, i.e. your CDG-HKG flight.

The only problem would be if the system blocks BA from checking in 2 x 32 to the CX flight. I've seen this happen before.

Is your CDG-HKG a BA-coded flight? If that is the case, your situation may be different. You may get BA allowance, but that is a BA, not a CX, discussion. Carriers change rules all the time. You can ask on the BA forum.

If my ticket allows me to check 2x23kg bags, can I instead check 1x28kg?

of course not, unless you demonstrate super good social skills at the airport

Even if. Whether the airport will make an acceptation we don't know, but 'officially' it's no.

What is CX's baggage allowance for separate booking with different entitlement.

i.e. Short haul Y cheapest fare with 1 baggage, connecting to a long haul PEY with 2 baggage. Do they follow the lower one or the longer one?

What I do in these cases is check in an old carry-on that I don't mind being bumped in transit, full of the heaviest things I carry in my normal suitcase. That usually does the trick to reduce the weight of the big suitcase to 23 kg.

Depending on your status with CX there is per piece tolerance, but even as a DM a 5kg (+20%) addition is too much to expect.
