Schedule change

Received an email from Cathay Pacific regarding a schedule change. Original itinerary has us arriving in YVR at 2025 and we were supposed to connect to AC flight to yeg around 2 hours later.
New itinerary has us arriving in Yvr same time but AC flight (last flight of the day) is now at same time we arrive making it impossible to connect. Before I call them...what can we reasonably expect? Checked west jet..nothing available with them at that time. Will we have to overnight in Yvr hotel at our expense? Picked the original itinerary so as to get home without the added night in hotel.
If we have to overnight at our expense so be it but before I call just want to be informed from people who may have been in same situation.
Thanks

Maybe a lot of spoken sympathy but very little in terms of tangible assistance. Their staff will fight you all the way esp under current financial austerity.

This is CX888 isn't it? Does CX838 work for you? I will ask for free rebooking if yes.

It doesn't hurt to try. My family of three booked UA award travel to OGG, with a connection to HNL on Island Air (direct to HNL was unavailable to us when booking). Well, UA saw fit to keep pushing back the departure time until we could no longer catch the connecting flight. This was just days before the trip.

I called United to explain the dilemma and they rebooked us to fly directly to HNL. I was pleasantly surprised at the courteous service I received from the agent, and I'm just a lousy MP Silver member!

I know it's a little different situation but I was happy that UA accommodated us due to their schedule changes.

Good luck!

UA let my mother cancel five tickets on a doctor's note once. Doubt CX would be that generous.

Is this with one or two tickets?

If you have booked through on one ticket then they will (should) look after you either with overnight hotel and meals or rebooking. if separate booking then you would need to turn on the charm -

How far out is your booking?

If it is a ways away, you're not really entitled to much... help with rescheduling or cancellation without penalty is reasonable though. If they refuse to help you with a rebooking at a minimum you should be able to cancel without any recourse. my guess is they'll try to help you reschedule on another flight with no charge. But if it's bad luck and nothing available, they should at least let you cancel. But definitely not a hotel stay or compensation if it's a ways in the future (ie, months). In a few extreme cases we've seen some posts where folks with flights 6 months out, facing a schedule change, expect compensation beyond waived cancellation/change fees. This is just not realistic.

If it's close in, particularly if a few days away, they should do more for you.

Thanks for all replies. Actually found a flight that would leave yvr that evening getting us into yeg. Cathay changed the booking so all is well.
Thank you again.

I noticed that when CX has a schedule change, you normally just get an email or an SMS...

The other day I got a call from QR, it would be my first flight ever with them, and on my return sector back to MNL, my FCO-DOH leg got moved forward from 1755 to 1630. Someone from the MNL Office called me to inform me of the change and that she will send the updated itinerary to my email after the call.

I'm just disappointed that with CX, they can't even extend that courtesy to DMs
