IT bug, flight delayed
Flying CX260 today at 13:10 (19:10 HK time). At 8:48 I got the message from CX:
CX260/20Aug/CDGHKG: We regret to inform you that CX260/18AUG is delayed due to operational reasons. Flight is estimated to depart at 17:20 local time (Paris). Please note that our check-in counters will close at 16:00 local time (Paris). We apologize for all inconvenience this might cause you.
So I delayed my cab booking and started to relax. I called CX Paris to check but they are closed on week end. Then I checked arrival of CX261 in Paris this morning and it showed only 75 minuted delay. That should be ample time to turnaround (supposed to remain 6 hours on ground). So I thought the plane had a technical problem. I I checked the status of the flight on CX.com and got the same message. Then I started to be suspicious as I noticed that they were talking about both 18Aug and 20Aug. So I called HK from Paris and, after waiting 20 min, the guy told me that CX260 is expected on time.
SO I will go on time, but I bet that a large number of pax will not note the date discrepancy and come to the airport a few hours later. Will be chaos.
Bravo CX IT.

I am usually cautious in reading messages, but the "We regret to inform you.." sent 4 hours before departure made me change my cab booking. And change back again. If CX260 departs on time, they have CX278 at 2115. But that is quite fool.
What is weird is that they have not sent a correction message (or update their status page) two hours later.

One of my friend says that they simply used the August 18 message and forgot to update the date of flight, but the flight will be delayed because of crew rest. Another says it is on time.

They just updated the status page to no delay, but sent no messages. Anyway this is now a little over two hours before departure and will be difficult to be on time for pax who have altered their travel schedule to the airport.

The airport staff had no clue how it happened. Strange that a correction message was not even sent. The load was already expected to be light, so I could not find out if pax missed the flight and had to be accommodated on the 21:15 flight. Two J pax who almost missed the flight were accomodated in F as compensation (plenty of empty J seats) but with J meal. That disturbed service. FA had to separately prepare their J meal. They took their orders, brought trays from the J galley. The guys (I knew one) were quite excited by their upgrade, engaged in a wine tasting party (F wine) and were constantly chatting with the FA who spent a lot of time. It resulted in slow and disorganized F service. Unpleasant for a paid F pax like me.
