Okay I think I might have been wrong - when I checked using the Google Flights mobile interface I can't see the deals, but on a web browser they're there.

Definitely still around but much less availability; there is only one day at this price for 01 April - 30 June 2017. Still quite a bit of availability for early December, Jan - March and July

Checked at 9am HK time - HKG to ORD deal was bookable.

Hesitated for a while ... and rechecked at 11am. Gone.

Checked dates from Jan to July. All gone.

Sigh.

Count me amongst one of those that missed out. They are completely gone.

The cheap fares have returned but not quite as good as before. Prices start from HKD18878 for HKG - USA via DFW or LAX.

Examples:

MH - HKG-KUL for HKD 3250 plus (All in HK3710) in Business RT from HKG to Oct 31 for travel Jan 1, 2017 to Jun 21, 2017

Not as cheap but still pretty good. I learned my lesson the first time - if you see a fare about approx 2k in J R/T, jump on it.

There is currently a JL/AA F class deal from Seoul to USA for around $3k. Lots of inventive routings to get lots of club points and fly JL in F class.
