CX ramekin of nuts in J

Hi all, curiosity has gotten the better of me and I have to know the answer to this question. In the past 2 months, I have taken a total of 8 regional flights in CX J class.

During the initial drinks run, on the lower level of the trolley, there has been a tray of ramekins of nuts. However, on every on of my 8 flights, I have not been offered nuts. I have observed the offering of nuts to be sporadic, but I would say that the majority of pax did not receive any nuts.

Am I missing something here, or do you need to specifically ask for them? It seems weird to go to the effort of putting them there and not giving them to anyone.

Have just gotten off the regional J, and nuts were proactively offered. Same with most of my regional and long haul J flights. They are all warmed so... yes it does require effort.

While on some services they may "forget(?)", I just ask for them if they are not offered.

I fly SFO often, and I am not sure about the other routes. They used to offer nuts, but now they only have a few on the carts below the drinks, and they don't ask. I noticed and asked for nuts the past two times.

It's the fact that they do go to the effort of warming them that confuses me. Maybe I am just very unlucky, but I think 8 flights in a row with not one offer of nuts is a bit more than unlucky.

I've never had the nuts not served in J/F (or coach for that matter-just that those are the prepackaged ones) - Longhaul or regional !!

Calling IanfromHKG- you might, just, have competition! (For being singled out by CX IT, CX Staff or, the Gods for 'unstandard- published or not' service- and I say that without a hint of snark).

Forget the nuts not even pre drinks

Just flew SYD to HKG in J
I was surprised on this flight no pre dinner drinks run occurred, yet bizarrley during the handing out of lunch I noticed a few ramikins of nuts on the lower level of the trolley. Did the deliberately skip a service here?

Same happened to me on a BKK flight as well.

Looked like another 'service enhancement' to me - they don't remove it altogether, but put it on the trolley without proactively offering them, assuming passengers will see them available on request.

The same enhancement tactic has been used for salt and pepper in J, toothpicks in Y etc.

From my experience

- regional flights (apart from Japan) do not have a proactive nut service
- Japan, there's the Japanese rice crackers (otsumami)
- for longhaul, nuts are offered proactively

Interestingly for the Japan flights, there used to be otsumami on the return flight from Japan to HK but not on the outbound (where they served nuts). Now there's otsumami for both legs.

Now that I think about it, I used to get pre meal nuts and drinks on HKGSIN. However, I don't remember it during my last two flights.

Probably an enhancement I guess.

Seems like there is large inconsistencies now. I took HKG-SIN two weeks ago and they were proactively offered.

i agree. very inconsistent! on HKG-DPS, i remember FA gave me nuts but it was in the package, not in a ramekin. the other 3x i flew in J, i didn't receive anything. i also didn't see nuts being prepared.

I have a feeling it has to do with the flight time vis-a-vis meal service. I see them on TPE/MNL sectors at the lower level of the trolley, normally if i don't take the meal they SP normally offers it. As for longer regional flights like SIN/KUL and Japan, they are normally offered first with the drinks after take off.

That said, OP might just want to ask next time...I doubt the crew will turn it down.

One other point to note is that despkte not being offered nuts, they were on the trolley.Do the FA`s return the unused nuts to the bag if they are unused? If they simply throw them away then there doesn't seem to be much sense in not offering them.

Another thing that I have noticed is that the location of the nuts on the trolley is hard to reach for the FA, especially for the long haul J seat. So it may be that the FA is too lazy to reach for them.

I get the point that I should just ask, but I don't feel like I should need to ask in a premium cabin. Nuts are generally constant in every business class product in the world. I just don't like inconsistent service.

I'm not sure which regional flights you took, like I said for longer flights they normally go around and offer drinks and nuts...then they go around give the tray and appetizer....followed by the main course.

On shorter regional flights, they just go and give out the tray normal the appetizer and dessert are already placed in small cups...then the SP or FP comes around to give out the main course and offer drinks.

I'm not 100% sure what they do with the extra nuts but I doubt they put them back in the bag.

Mixture of longer and shorter regional flights:

PVG - HKG

HKG - BKK

HKG - TPE

I get the TPE flight doesn't have full service due to length, but the others have the full drinks run followed by tray and bread followed by main course.
