Own materials from pendrive on individual screen. Possible?
Hello,
we'll by flying in J on B777, AMS-HKG and I wonder if entertainment system will allow showing materials from my own pen drive on LCD screen? I assume, there's USB port by each seat but have never tried (in any airline) to use such port for this purpose.
Best regards, Bartek

No. Have tried it myself on several airlines (including CX), with all sorts of formats and drives. Never works with just a USB stick.
In J, CX uses the same system as described here, it contains links to the cables / adapters you'll be needing to make it work.

CX's USB port is for charging only. Theoretically you can use that Apple port, whatever it's called. But I don't use any iDevices
Even on other airlines, at most I can only get jpeg and very laggy mpg videos to play. No other video files, docs, etc.

Pretty much so. I only use that for charging. From what I see, other passengers are using it for the same reason.

My bad, even older - iPhone 5 when they introduced the new cable/port.

thanks everyone :-)
Well, it seems that I'll have to use tablet instead... You see, we're going AMS-HKG-DPS (final destination is LBJ, but not on CX) for our 20th wedding anniversary and I've been thinking about a multimedia gift for my wife. I thought it would be nice to create a kind of presentation, write it to pendrive and ask the CX crew before boarding to put a nicely decorated box with pendrive (with instructions, how to use it) on my wife's seat :-)
However, since it's complicated to connect such pendrive to IFE and quality of image (if connection is successful) is low, I'll show this presentation on tablet, not necessarily on board of CX plane...
Nevertheless, thanks for helpful information :-)

That's quite a plan! Congratulations- Have a ball, and all the best! Quite certain that an adequately packed iPad, with instructions being presented the way you want would have a great effect too.
Btw, since you are putting in the effort for the presentation, perhaps do the pen-drive as well? On the off chance that you and the crew can figure out how to...long shot, but if it works, would be totally worth the effort!
