downsizing CX 884 from first to business class

Has there been any history of CX flight 884 HKG- LAX downsizing from 4 classes to only 3 therefore eliminating the first Class?

I have a flight on January 8th on first class award ticket and am concern that this may be downsize as this flight only has first class thursday through sunday

TIA

The downsize is on selected days. If it does downsize to a plane with no first class the carrier that issued your ticket should be able to protect you to another CX flight with first class.

If it did happen, the solution depends on what kind of ticket you have.
If it is paid tiecket or AM reward, CX would protect you to another flight with F class or refund it. If it is AA reward, you must call AA to see what they could do for you. Since AA is not the operated airline, it might be difficult for you to get F seat on another CX flight...

AA could contact CX via its liason rep and asks CX to open up an F seat on another flight, but this is not a given, most likely requires many calls and probably depending on one's status whether AA would agree to do that.

You can also call CX to ask for help - a friend's EWR-HKG flight was canceled and being put on a JFK-HKG flight of the same date. He rather flied out from EWR on different date. AA could not help when there was no award seat on other dates on the EWR-HKG flight. He called CX to plead. CX opened up seats and told him to contact AA to switch.

AA could also just refund you the mile difference between J and F and be done with it.

AA will probably put you on their recently announced flight.

When CX eliminated the 2nd ORD flight last year, the two of us were moved to CX 806 the next day in F. This was on an AA award ticket so it's possible they could protect you in the event of a downgrade.
