Does KA809 often get cancelled?

I just searched for KA809 only to find out that the one today is cancelled. I will be flying KA809 in June, so I'm wondering whether this is a one off thing or common occurrence?

Often time when pax # is low, one of the many flights
to/from PEK and/or PVG would be cancelled to maximize the use of the metal.

Usually this would come with advance notice and arrangements, no worry.

FYI: Flights cancelled
Feb 28: KA876/877 and KA896/897
Feb 29: KA804/805
Mar 01: KA874/875
Mar 02: KA808/809

In general I don't like taking the last flight out of PVG. Any flight from afternoon on are easily subject to cancellation or delay. If you take the last PVG-HKG flight to catch an early morning flight out of HKG, and if the PVG flight is cancelled, you may miss your connection.

Thanks asv and cxfan!

In the situation where the last flight gets cancelled resulting in an overnight stay at PVG, do Dragonair provide hotel room?

1. In general they will look for you in advance to put you into earlier flights if cancelling flights due to operational reasons rather than severe delay.

2. Should a overnight stay be resulted, yes KA would get you a room.
But more important issue is the missing connection.

Re-scheduling you to CX797 in the following day would mean you are losing a complete day in Jakarta, a day that CX probably cannot compensate you meaningfully.

I guess OP is over-worrying re: flight cancellation, that tonight KA 897 has been delayed to arrive in 23:17, almost same time as original scheduled KA 809 which means 897 will pick-up all the left-over people.

HOWEVER, you OP should go to airport early (especially if weather is bad or there's a known issue with delayed flights few days before) to change for earlier flight to avoid China airspace control, causing cascade effect of delayed flight.

asv2- thanks for the info. I'm not too worried about losing a complete day in Jakarta.

ChrisLi- yeah, I admit I'm over-worrying. My worries stem from the sudden cancellation of my CX798 flight that is scheduled to fly on 21st May 2016. I never even received an e-mail/other notification that it got cancelled and that I got automatically rebooked for a flight departing on 20 May. I just happened to find out about the cancellation when I logged into CX website.
