i purchased double seats multiple times in business class on CX and KA when the seat config was 2-3-3.

no problem in HK, but some stations in china claim that no boarding pass can be issued if there is no passport for the seat. if you are at the airport ahead of time they can somehow sort it out with HK, meaning you will only get one BP but the seat next to you is hard blocked.

never got miles for the extra seats. in regards to luggage, no experience.

can be funny if some group is checked in and they have to leave some people back on the ground due to overbooking. they yell at the FAs that there indeed was an empty seat on the plane, until they understand somebody actually paid for it.

if i book like this in the US, i was offended personally sometimes by airline employees on stand-by tickets, who actually walk trough the cabin and complain to me that they have to stay behind because of me. in europe they would have been fired immediately for yelling at a paying passenger just to get this ones seat for free

i once bought an extra F seat on SFO-LAX right at the gate and you can see one name disappearing from the "automatted standby passenger clearance monitor". i can understand somebody was not happy but i paid full for that seat and thats what happens.
