First redemption help!
I am looking to redeem a first class ticket from JFK to Asia in June/July 2016. I am based in HK and am looking to redeem JFK-HKG-TYO/KIX with stopover in HKG to maximize my first class experience with two legs and also the first class lounge at HKG.
Tokyo or Osaka will mainly be a tag-on as an outbound flight for a vacation in Asia so I am open to other cities but seems CX only guarantee F on these two Asia routes.
Couple of questionsss...
1. Any tips for having this to work out?
2. How difficult is this redemption since I cannot really confirm till late January, and June might be a peak travel period?
3. Let's say if JFK-HKG is not available, I heard JL has pretty awesome first class too?
4. If I look to have stopover in HKG, how do I check for availability? Available awards for both sectors instead of combined?

If you're based in HK, I assume you have residence / place to stay in Hong Kong? In that case, you MIGHT be lucky and being able to close in on a F award last minute 1 week out.
Are you using Asia Miles or...?If AM, there's no point of tagging JP onto your ticket, you can just redeem it separately and it will cost the same amount of mileage. KIX might not be F-protected anymore. YMMV on HND.

I thought AM website states that a 7501-10000 miles first class redemption would cost 130,000 miles? JFK-HKG is about 8000 miles in distance and JFK-HKG-JP is about 9800 miles so both would cost 130,000 miles? How do I book them separately and still cost only 130,000 miles?

BTW, 130K is for one-way only. Is that what you want?

My bad, turns out JFK-HKG-JP does seem to be a sweet spot with Zone E. Not so much for those of us travelling from the West Coast / Zone D.
Caution though - if you decide to tag HND/KIX onto your itinerary, you will run into "married segment" problems. Give the term a search for deeper meaning.
Agree with cxfan1960 - I hope you're at least redeeming a r/t if you're using Asia Miles - if not, you would be surprised how much AA miles charge for a o/w F ticket...
