Q: when do CX check-in counters open?

At the moment we are considering this itin: CX from TPE to HKG and CX from HKG to SYD. There will be 2 separate bookings - because they are miles redemption and we will have to book them separately as dates become available.

Q - We would like to spend some time in the lounges - have not been to HKG lounges for ages. Therefore would like to know how early can we check our bags in for flight from HKG to SYD? I have looked at CX website but could not find the answer. [Our experience in Sydney with QF we can only check our bags in 4 hours before flights.]
I think we have to collect our bags on arriving into HKG and check them in again for the flight to SYD. Or, can we ask CX to check our bags to SYD when we check in at TPE - if we show them our 2 separate booking ref etc?
We would like to know this before we book flights.

Many thanks!

Definitely you can check in bags early morning for an evening departure at HKG. I don't know if they do day prior like in Singapore

You'll be able to through-check at TPE even on separate bookings.

Thanks! Haven't booked flights yet, but we will likely fly TPE to HKG in the afternoon. Flight HKG to SYD leaves late evening. This will give us about 5 hours to do lounge hops - CX and QF

Thanks! We will ask for bags to be checked thru to SYD when we check in at TPE - both flights with CX, but will be on separate bookings. Economy from TPE to HKG then business from HKG to SYD.

I sort of had the similar question about bag drop. We will be using something called TGVAir from Poitiers (SW France) to CDG then on to Hong Kong the check-in will be at the Poitiers TGV terminal for both the TGV POI-CDG and CX CDG-HKG sectors but bag drop is obviously not available at Poitiers and has to be done at the airport. Because of other train connections (to Poitiers) we will arrive at CDG at 13:35 for the flight at 20:30 so if bag drop is only available when check-in opens 4 hours pre-flight then we have a 3 hour wait with heavy luggage. We were hoping that maybe that the ability to bag drop might be available earlier.

TPE should be able to see your onward flight and check your bag to SYD for you

If for whatever reason they cannot you can tell TPE check in your ticket number and they can do the same

Tell the check-in agent you are continuing to sydney, and have a copy of your HKG-SYD e-ticket (or itinerary with PNR) to hand over. Your bags should be tagged priority given the connection to business class (if not done automatically, just remind them.)

This will also mean you'll get your onward boarding pass and can proceed straight to transit security in HKG (don't have to go via a transfer desk).

Thanks, sscywong and LHR/MEL/Europe FF, for your replies - much appreciated.

Some good news. I have managed to add on the second flight (TPE to HKG) to the first booking (award). So, now both flights are on one booking, both with CX and both in J - no change to miles required, but had to pay the change fee of $175 (first ticket $150 and second ticket $25). This means I do not have to worry about bags, so that we will have more time to do lounge hops

You never had to worry about bags, and having everything on one ticket won't get you any more lounge time.

upgrade for 2 for $175... possibly not too bad. But it's a very short flight.
