please allow me to say something nice

Having just completed the mega journey BOS-HKG-SYD in CX J, I would like to say that the overall quality of CX's product transformed a potentially grueling journey into a pleasant and at times highly enjoyable one that, most importantly, delivered me entirely whole at my destination. I care more about the hard product and efficiencies than about soft stuff, especially food. If I flew these routes a lot I would hope for somewhat more from the J menus, I'm sure. But everything was fine for my needs and it's massively more important for this kind of trip that the sleeping conditions are excellent and the airport lounges have everything needed (the layover shower was really excellent). The service on ground and in air was excellent without exception, reserved and not fawning, but competent and diligent--exactly my preference.

Welcome to BOS CX. This was a work trip on paid J and I would choose again, especially to avoid the domestic red eye from US west coast on return.

Happy to answer any questions about this journey and routing.

Of course. Few would disagree that the longhaul J seat is one of the very best and that CX is generally a reliable and efficiently run airline. You will see relatively few complaints on FT about delays, lost luggage, etc.. They will get you (and your luggage) to your destination, and you will get some sleep along the way.

All the complaints about food are First World Problems. But we complain anyway.

LOL ... the complain (and there are lots of them) is because we hold CX in high regard so any slight deficiency is bound to generate a 'complain'.

At the end of the day, CX is an airline that will take you from A to B in a way that's better than most other airlines could (but it doesn't mean it cannot make improvement around the egdes. )

Don't forget the conversation about bottled water some time ago. And how can one not complain about CX savoury dip?

In comparison to American carriers, I am sure you will find CX to be a pleasant surprise. Just in future, if you miss out on the BOS direct flight, you could always connect down to JFK and they have multiple flights a day towards HKG from where you can connect to most of the Asian and Australian cities easily.
