Seat selection.

Pardon if this has been explained before. My wife and I purchased business class seats in April from HKG to the Maldives. We were assigned seats in the back of the business class section. I can pull up my itenerary under Manage Booking icon on Cathays site but it will not allow me to select a different seat. Has this been a common finding for you guys? I was under the impression you would see a seat map and be able to pick your seat?

J passengers can usually pick their seats, unless the cabin is overbooked (or perhaps full).

Are you flying during the long weekend in early April?

Yes. Early April for 7 days. I hadn't thought that it might be booked. But most airlines in J you can still see a fully booked seat map.

Have you tried calling reservations to pick a different seat?

I found it a bit unintuitive, but to see the seat map on CX Manage My Booking site, you need to click the 'Update' button below the table showing your seat assignment in the 'Seat' tab.

You cannot "update" if J is overbooked or within 55 (?) hours of departure.

Perhaps a silly question, but did you try clicking the "update" button?

I fell for this trap, as most engines you click "update" after you have selected a seat.....

Thanks guys. Clicking the update button did allow me to see seat map. Then I was able to select a different seat. Then by hitting update button again it locked in new selection.

Within 55 hours and not overbooked, definitely can change seats on CX flights via QR website.

CX does need better MMB. My daughters couldn't do that on CX site in December/January...
