CNY availability

Nope- if CX has a published 'V' or higher applicable fare, you get to book any, as low as V/published, irrespective of any/all fare buckets being zero'd or closed.

(Some destinations have the lowest fare class as higher than 'V'- like HKG-MNL had L or M a few years back).

Came in handy a few times, and absolutely fabulous value when it's used. (Usually, meant higher chances of an op-up, under the old regime).

Thanks jagmeets

Just to clarify you can't force CX to sell you a lower-than-V (like S/N) using the seat guarantee right?

Nope- can't! Only V or higher- though I suppose one could always waitlist with priority and play on CX's tendency to open up all classes at the last minute on some routes.

Does CNY explain the following? I have been monitoring JFK/EWR HKG vv daily for this weekend for the past 45 days. Most booking codes were 9s across the board for all flights. Several hours ago all flights from now until next Tuesday suddenly became 0s in all fare codes and cabins.

There is one cancellation on Feb 19 to JFK but that flight also had weak demand so I doubt reaccomodating those passengers is causing everything to zero out for the next five days.

Is CX considering additional cancellations? A sudden surge of last minute bookings in all cabins all flights to/from JFK/EWR?

AAdvantage CX redemption thread suggests it's a WX cancellation.

CX does appear to be acting as if something is going to result in cancellations but the only thing forecasted to affect NYC area is cold (no major precipitation) according to weather.gov. Does 15-20 Fahrenheit affect operations?

The previous snow storms caused havor and many pax cancelled (not just airlines), so I don't know the real numbers, but between the snow storms, cancellations, etc.?

I didn't realise V fares were applicable too! I booked L fares on some random other dates online and asked to switch to my preferred dates for CNY (which only had Y and B).

Thanks for the tip.
