Salaries at Cathay
Not really directly travel related but I was wondering what the higher ups at Cathay make? Not necessarily what Ivan Chu earns but just their execs in general.
Seems to me like they are always cutting something somewhere in terms of service (i.e. the horrid J food as of late) but they are one of the few consistently profitable airlines so I would expect it to be quite high.

I've no idea but given the Swire Groups history I imagine it isn't chump change! The biggest contributor to bonuses is probably the ability for some to screw down pilot's pay...

speaking of pilots
where are all the delays and cancellations they threatened?
CX last CEO earned less than the Air NZ CEO...

I've had a couple delays from "late arriving" aircraft in the afternoon, so apart from after trickle down delays, I haven't really seen anything more.

I've heard that for management trainees they start at ~18K with up to 30% increment each year.

Salaries at Cathay
I know that the OP wanted to know about execs..still, as an aspiring pilot (though too old to make a career of it), I do recall being seriously underwhelmed on reading the salary of CX's top dog who got fired for the 77W stunt over KPAE on the delivery of their first 77W. It was good (don't recall the nos, but 'think' like USD 250k p.a) but I'd expected more for the guy at the top of the totem pole of flying planes for a large carrier with a good wide body fleet and a diverse talent pool, like CX.
Probably more to do with the profession of flying a plane than CX though. (Awesomest flyby btw! In case you haven't seen, do look it up - pity that 'office politics' seems to pervade all career lines).

18K with 30% increments per year means by year 10 they will be making $248K, that's not chump change and that's only 10 years...

There is a reason you should keep your salary secret, because even for big corp salary is more based on your ability to negotiate, value of your talents, and the company think you're easily replaceable or not. At a very young age I built the network infrastructure for a corporation, although technically I'm just a law "level-2 network engineer", but I managed to negotiate my salary to that 3 times what others in my level are making, simply because I know that they know that if I walk right then they will have no one to run it with any intelligence.
I would imagine CX management to be the same. Those "value managers" that brings to the table that no one else can will get pay a whole lot more than other managers that are there to do important tasks, but are easily replaceable if they should walk to take another job.
Pilot salary is different, since they are union so pays are strictly based on pre-negotiated ranking and not on merit. Which is why I believe for uniquely talented individuals that brings a set of skills that no one else has, union would be a nightmare for him.

In business today, it is generally not the salary earned. It's the stock options.

Senior Swire staff in HK don't get enormous salaries compared to other captains of industry. They do get incredible benefits though, especially housing, which means that the amount of money they have to spend from their salaries is drastically reduced. They have pretty cushy pension schemes too.
