Baggage allowance
Hello all. Happy holidays!
We have an upcoming trip to Taiwan. The starting point is San Francisco and the destination will be Taipei, Taiwan. Here is our itineraries (on 3 different PNRs)
SFO-LAX (AA domestic) Stay over one day in LA
LAX-NRT (AA first) Stay over one night near Narita
NRT-TPE (CX business)
From CX website, it states that the baggage allowance is limited to 66lbs per person when we fly business class (intra Asia routes). Even though we will fly from SFO, since we will stop over one night at NRT, we will need to follow the intra Asia baggage allowance, right? I am a OneWorld Emerald and am I entitled to an additional allowance?
Thank you!
Chan

If they're separate tickets then, yes you'll have separate allowance limits for the intra-Asia flights and the flight from LAX.
From LAX you'll be subject to whatever the limit is for AA First. For intra-Asia you get 40 kg for J and 20 kg for OWE, for 60 kg total (110 lb). You can split that however you like, but each bag cannot exceed 32 kg (70 lb).
I think your limiting factor with be your AA domestic flight? Since that will be the limited factor of your baggage limit.

Your domestic AA allowance is based on the First International allowance, soo you're safe there. At LAX - thru check your bag all the way to TPE and take only incidentals for your overnight stay at NRT.
If you decide to take your bag out at NRT, that's fine too. You may show CX your international flight coming in from LAX, and CX will accord you the international baggage allowance based on the piece system whether you are on one ticket or two. CX is good about that. BTW, as BA Gold, you get an extra piece of 32kg.
What about your return?

Since I am a OneWorld Emerald, I will check in 2 pieces of luggage while my partner will take one. We will keep each of them around 50lbs. One piece of luggage will be dropped off (family requested items). So we will only have two pieces of luggage coming back with us to SFO.
Thanks again and happy holidays!
