Thumbs up CX doha route

Flown the CX new doha route in Y and would like to report my obsevation

Loading in Y close to 100%

Outbound on Qatar metal, compared with inbound CX metal
Same Seat comfort
Same IFE
Qatar serves two hot meals but CX only one
Qatar provides amenity kit but CX none
Both provide menu

I am DM. Surprisingly the Qatar metal flight attendant did greet to me and asked my menu choice in advance. Sometimes I do not receive that treatment even in CX metal

I am flying CX and Qatar Y is much better than CX Y. Better seat pitch, IFE, and food options!

flew qr j back in Jan (not on HKG-DOH route).

Seat comfort to QR (i cant stand flying pointing diagonal. all my QR flights flies forwards. as a note you dont get full horizontal too but non-issue for me. 170degrees is all i need.

IFE to CX. 1) canto/chinese music; and 2) better CD selection layout (english chinese selection etc)

meals+drinks: QR hands down. the only minus is the halal meat that has a weird aftertaste. but avoidable on other (fish/veggie) options.

amenity kit: i always find CX's more usable. even JL's doesnt come close. so point to CX.

service: QR's FA work very hard but CX gives classier service. and i have a feeling that QR's product gets worn out faster.

all in all, if you fly premium cabin AND need a transit anyways, flying QR can replace CX as long as you dont fly those old planes. I'm HKG based and its hard to give up flying nonstop for via DOH

The most important question.

Does QR still serve unlimited champagne in Y?

I wrote up some thoughts on QR's J service on this route in the QR forum here

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by QR's better food and more attentive service and would fly them again over CX on this route (assuming the early morning departure time of 0715 works). I'm not a fan of QR's 2-2-2 configuration, but it's a daytime flight and sleeping was secondary to me.

I'm looking for info on the CX DOH-HKG-DOH flights and didn't find much in a search. Looks like it's generally long-haul J seats in 1-2-1 config.
Do CX pax use the QR Premium Terminal/ QR lounges in DOH? Or does CX use some contract lounge? Hopefully it's the QR lounges.
Thanks!

There's no QR Premium Terminal anymore, but yes, CX does use the QR Al Mourjan Business Class lounge at DOH as it's basically THE oneworld lounge there at present. When all the other ones open, I have no idea, though I suspect CX will continue to get access to Al Mourjan similar to getting access to the Premium Terminal at the old airport due to their codeshare/special partnership.

Flew HKG-DOH QR A332 in December and DOH-HKG CX A333 in January. Both in Y. IMO the CX product was far superior, though a major detraction from the QR A332 was highly obstructive IFE boxes in the foot space. IFE broken on QR, uncomfortable seat, really cramped. QR A380 in Y was excellent but the A332 experience so bad I will never fly QR out of HKG again so long as they operate that equipment.

I don't know how on earth you can compare 2-2-2 lie flat to 1-2-1 full flat and find the former better. I refuse to fly on the QR flight until they change the aircraft. Once was enough.

Oh dear. I've been trying to add QR HKG-DOH in addition to my DOH-GRU for months http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...difficult.html . Currently CX HKG-DOH and QR DOH-GRU

You must be asking why on earth am I spending so much effort trying to get on QR for HKG-GRU right? Well how would I know it's bad until I fly it?

If u get motion sickness when flying with ur toes pointing sideways, nothing would help.

Thanks for the reply from 6 weeks ago. Forgot to check back! Anyway I looked up and saw that CX website shows "Oryx Lounge" and "Business Class Lounge" at DOH.... any idea what that means? I don't see anything about the words Al Mourjan.... thoughts?
Oh and I have a 2 hour connection at DOH, QR>CX, and 3 hours on my return, CX>QR. So I know on my return I can use the QR lounges, so I'll survive on the outbound if it's a crappy lounge. I will like to shower if possible, since I'll be stepping off CPH-DOH and getting onto DOH-HKG.
Thanks for any info!

CX site doesn't

But oneworld cross-access rule site includes Al Mourjan for Doha http://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access (only excludes guests) and Ausbt reports CX should be allowed to go in too http://www.ausbt.com.au/photos-qatar...lounge-in-doha

I am a BA member but flying CX to/from Doha I have been able to use the Al Mourjan lounge, so i think it would be the same for an MPC member. Supposedly that will change when they finish all the other lounges, but thats some time away yet.
