Wait list clearing

Very simple: first time using the wait list on CX.

Do they email me when it clears or does it get done automatically?

Also I'm upgrading two segments, one of which is wait listed; the mileage quote, would it have been for just the segment that already cleared or that for both segments regardless to if the wait list clears or not.

Thanks! ^

In the past they've either sent me an SMS or called me -- after it clears, you still need to instruct them to deduct the miles and issue the upgraded ticket.

Assuming these segments are the outbound/inbound of a roundtrip: If you've already confirmed the upgrade on one segment, they should have deducted at that time the one-way mileage for that upgrade, and will deduct additional miles if/when the next segment clears. The total mileage you owe will be the amount for a roundtrip. My experience has been that they deduct only enough miles to make up the difference between the one-way they've already ticketed and the roundtrip, although others have reported that they'll deduct another one-way and then refund you back the difference.

If it's for two connecting segments on a one-way, I'm not sure how they handle it.

Thanks for answering. I forgot to clarify these are two connecting segments on a one-way (technically the return). I'm trying to figure out they will require the mileage of two segments combined or each is deducted separately assuming there is a difference.

If you have 2 segments on a one way ticket and one of the segment is confirmed. You would have a waitlist deadline. By that deadline you can either extend it by couple more days or issue the one segment that is confirmed. You will be deducted on the actual mileage of the segment you are confirm on.

My ticketing deadline is less than 12 hours before my first flight in the itinerary and I believe the wait list would be set to expire accordingly?

Since that's the case, I imagine if I tried to extend my deadline I won't be able to check into my flight the next day.

re alphaod: 12 hours? I normally can't get it under 72.

But in either case you have to ticket outbound segment first. If you manage to clear the return then you will be charged two one-ways in miles and then you can apply to have the difference between return redemption and two one-way refunded.

Yes, it looks like 12 hours before my first flight of the ticket.

It would still be over 72 for my return sector though.

That's for the info folks. I've never decided upgrade two sectors in the same direction at once, so hence the lack of knowhow.

Oh no, it's a upgrade award redemption that I'm looking at from Economy (M) to Premium Economy (T).
