Appreciate the insight, hehe. We ended up just extending the trip a few extra days and are now returning on a weekday instead of a weekend, and that day has two F seats available. First world problems I guess

good move. enjoy sitting and eating together, it looks like quite a treat to share a meal with someone on F. I sent my parents in F a while back and they had an absolute blast. it seems like one of those things that by doubling the people you get >2 the enjoyment of what's already an extremely pleasant flying experience.

I accidentally used the F bathroom once, it was a config that the bathroom is very close to first row J. It was NICE! But the FA immediately asked me not to do it again, I explained it's an accident and she said she knows many J made that mistake...

There were a a few occasions when I waited for Y/PEY bathrooms, the FAs invited me to use the J bathrooms, but I guess they knew J bathrooms would not be fully occupied.
Back to the topic, passengers are not allowed to visit a higher class cabin in general. However, there can be rare exceptions. I took my mother-in-law to US in May. I could only get her a F award (no J award availability). She needed wheel chair assistance. The ISM told me that I could move to an empty seat in the F cabin about 30 min before landing to disembark with her. My mother-in-law also asked to see me about 30 min into the flight. The FAs were very nice to take me to the F cabin, but I was only there for less than a minute.

Asian airlines tend to be a bit more stricter and "by the book" when it comes to traversing into F territory if you're not actually seated there. They may accommodate you for a short visit to see someone but that's about it. I once unwittingly wandered into F from J on an EY flight after waking from deep slumber on an overnight JFK-AUH flight and used the toilet, not realizing that this was only for F pax use. Once I got out the flight attendant told me off and requested I only use the toilets for J.
On AA I was in J and my friend was in F (NRT-DFW), they had no problems for me to come and visit him (once he gave permission of course) and sat there for 2 hours chatting, and even poured me wine from F. I guess each airline has it's own policies of how lenient they may be on these matters but by and large the Asian airlines enforce their policy quite strictly.

I know that FA's hate when PAX come forward into a premium cabin that they are not seated in.

Worse yet is when a family has the parent(s) in a premium cabin and their child(ren) are ticketed in a lesser cabin. The child(ren) come forward and annoy the other pax in the premium cabin with their endless visitations.
