Upgrade Certificate usage
Hi All
This is my first time posting to the Cathay forum.
July 23 I'm flying JFK-HKG-KUL
and returning Aug 11 BKK-HKG-JFK
I was booked PE for all segments but Cathay emailed that my BKK-HKG segment had been changed and I was downgraded to Economy. They mailed me an Upgrade Certificate as compensation as well as gave me a $100 US credit.
My question is. What are the chances of my Upgrade Certificate actually moving me up to Business? Will people with lots of mileage bump out of a chance?
thanks in advance. This will be my first time on Cathay and I'm quite excited for their PE product.

Not sure what the T&C's are for your UG certificate but read then carefully. If allowed I would say you have a good chance for the 7/23 JFK>HKG flight. Lots of J seats for sale on all the flights that day.

If it's like the ones they give me then it's a one class "space available" upgrade - meaning that you ask when you check in if you can use it and they see whether they can accommodate you. if they have seats available in the class you want to get upgraded to, then you have a very good chance I'd say. If they don't then you won't get upgraded, but you can always use it the next time you're on CX as they're valid for a year from the date of issue. On the other hand, I've sometimes waited so long in the year to use them that I find they've expired so now I try and use them early on!
