Help changing ticket segment

So I'm flying PVG-HKG-JFK-HKG-PVG.

I'm currently booked PVG-HKG on KA 865 (CX ticket), and HKG-JFK on CX 846.

I want to change my flight PVG-HKG to a CX flight (that's 20 minutes earlier, CX 367), but when I do it online and when I call in, they say they can't change it before they have to reissue both segments and my second segment (HKG-JFK) is fully booked.

I've checked and there is availability in my booking class, and there are plenty of seats available (in both segments).

I often change my tickets last minute and this is the first time I've had an issue.

So what can I do at this point? I don't know if it really can't be changed or a case of lack of know-how of the CX ticketing office agents.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is anything you can do.

BTW, were you checking them as married segments or separate? Availability is different. Married segments usually have lower fare.

I guess my issue is no longer an issue. I decided to change my flight to an earlier day.

And yes I was checking them together. I basically let me go through all the changes until I hit confirm after payment of $0 difference and then it tells me my seats are no longer available.

Understand this is no longer an issue for OP but for PVG-HKG you can show up early and they will put you on the earliest available flight for no change fee. I've done this as SL, GO, and DM and never had an issue. Unless the flight is full of course.

The whole reason I wanted to change to an earlier PVG-HKG flight is I find the CX flights are usually less delayed than the KA flights. Every single week I fly my KA flight has been delayed 40 minutes to 2 hours. Worse I've had a few cancellations. So as a precaution and avoid missing my connection, I decided I would fly an earlier flight on CX.

However with the whole married segments available being different, I decided to fly two days earlier; I have the times I want and now I'm on an earlier HKG-JFK flight.

To add on that, CX also has Point of Sale (POS) restriction. The availability for the same (married) segment(s) can be different depending on where you look it up / which country the TKT was issued from.
