Massive op-ups

So today, my short haul from PVG-HKG, I swear just about everybody in the MPC line during boarding was op-upped. Never seen an op-up in a short-haul since I didn't think they oversold these flights.

Is this a good future ahead for us?

Maybe it was an aircraft swap that caused seating change?

Were you on 367?

I suspect flight was oversold. Plane swapped from a 33G to 77H. J+ was 5/6. Mini cabin in J was full. Didn't have the chance to check out rows and beyond though.

Probably the 3 day break for 5/1 causing the mass exodus from tiongland.

lucky you - contrast that to my CX255 last night to LHR, had BN1 on a sold out flight (000000) and no joy

dont know whether to blame too many DMs, PE or fully sold out premium cabins...

My friend was so lucky on Thursday night. When he did OLCI for his flight to ICN, it already showed UPGRADED. That only happened to me once when I flew to HND.

Where do you see all zeros? I find any sites that claims to have access to load ended up pretty inaccurate. Expertflyer, etc. I have been op-up on flights where these sites still shows all 9s the day before, and I have seem empty seats in all cabins when sites shows all 0s the day before. So unless you have direct access into CX database, don't trust those sites too much.

I've had more op-ups on relatively short regional flights than I have on longhauls. YMMV. MNL is said to be a particular bonanza. You probably benefited from the holiday weekend.

I don't think the sites are faulty so much as the interpretation. They only know what CX is willing to sell. In another thread there was a discussion that closer to the departure, CX will sometimes open up the last seat on the plane to lower booking classes (meaning, if there are 2 seats in J but PEY and EY are full, they'll still do J2W2Y2) in the expectation of op-upping if needed.

I think it has been mentioned before but BN001 doesn't always equals upgrade. I don't bother with OLCI anymore - just go to first class check-in about an hour before and a few times the lady leaves her podium to hand me my boarding pass and says "So today Mr. XX you'll be in business class" and that's BN256 or more. They have obviously given my seat to somebody else and PE/E is full. I find this way works better - but to each his own.

SIN was just as busy on 30/4

5 out of my last 6 flights between SIN and HKG I have been upgraded. 4 times to J and once to PE. On 30/4, I was upgraded to PE already online a few hours before the flight and then from PE to J at the gate.

Massive op-ups

"Massive" op-ups were going on for my return from Qingdao. I saw a SL member get upgraded in front of me, so I greeted the check-in staff with: "I hope that means you're upgrading me too". It did. New regional J on KA is really rather nice.

Yeah it was on 367 and an equipment change from 33G to 77H. It was a pleasant change; sadly my 659 HKG-SIN swapped from a 77H to an old 772.

Lucky me? No luck, I paid for J, didn't get upgraded to F unfortunately. I assume all the DMs got it first.

I'm not sure if it says UPGRADED but when this happens it usually shows a seat allocation in a higher class that you're unable to modify.

Occurs now and then on my shuttles to SIN and SYD - I guess it really just depends on your flight loadings. Generally when this happens your chances for a (rare) double upgrade when boarding at the gate are higher.

Depends. If you are upgraded before you OLCI, then it gives a message saying you have been upgraded and you can actually even change your assigned seat in the higher class. If you are upgraded after you OLCI, then it shows you a seat assignment in a higher cabin that you cannot change.

I've seen both cases. Normally always the latter as I OLCI early before op-ups are processed.
