Question about availability
Hello,
I have 55k miles with American and 50k miles with Alaska. I am from Atl, and next year i was hoping to go to Hong Kong with a friend in Business class one way. We would be flying Delta on the way back once they have one way availability. What are the chances we would have the same availability getting a flight for both of us, and getting a seat next to each other? Im still new to a lot of this so any info would be helpful.

So you want to find two J award seats on CX? If you book about 330 days in advance when the schedules load, you should get decent availability for J

Use BA's award booking tool, it is pretty good in showing CX availability.

CX also tend to open availability closer to departure (I've had luck two or three weeks ahead, others find it only happens a few days in advance).
In answer to your question about seating, once you're confirmed on a flight, you'll have an opportunity to select seats. Often pairs in the middle are available.

For seating - in longhaul business class on CX, people do not and cannot exactly sit together as the seats are separated, like little cubicles. This is one of the main attractions of the CX business class seat. The pairs in the middle have some access to each other but are a nuisance in that they are on separate aisles. A lot of people prefer front and back seats which are not exactly front and back as the seats are arranged on a slant (herringbone like). Picking seats is not a problem once you have secured availability. Even asking people nicely on the plane to swap is usually not a problem.

The person is not using CX miles but AA/AS miles. The buckets for awards are different - CX miles gets more availability vs. partner bookings. Hence using BA or JAL availability tool to search as they will not give false positives.

As the topic is not on Asia Miles award availability, I would suggest asking in the corresponding forums as the members there can help more.
