I am flying in March in paid J from LHR to AKL via HKG (return) ticketed with CX. The legs between LHR and HKG are operated by CX, with the legs between HKG and AKL operated by Air NZ.
Will I be able to use the Cathay lounges in Hong Kong or is there an alternative lounge that I will have to use? I have seen some reports that you have to use the Thai Lounge in Hong Kong on the outward leg which looks less than inspiring to say the least but would appreciate confirmation if anyone knows.

The confusion about the Thai lounge may have arisen as different lounges are used for CX/NZ codeshare flights for status members of AirNZ's FFP. Whilst Gold/Gold Elite members (and I assume also *G) can use CX's lounges regardless of class when flying HKG-AKL on a CX/NZ codeshare, Koru Club members are only entitled to use the Thai lounge in HK.
The Thai lounge isn't actually that bad, although most AirNZ Gold/Gold Elite (or *G) holders tend to prefer the United lounge next door, especially if it's breakfast time.

You can use the Cathay lounges in Hong Kong (even though it's a NZ operated flight) since you're travelling on a J ticket.
