I'm surprised to hear this. I assumed most airlines had a policy similar to that of BA's whereby FAs are not permitted to serve meals from a lower class to pax seated in a higher class - so if there is insufficient catering, then there will be no op-up(s). I am, of course, no expert on CX... or BA for that matter!!

Wow, this is bizarre. I've flown LAX-HKG at least a dozen times in all classes and I've never noticed an attitude problem there. I'm not saying you guys are all wrong of course -- I'm just feeling cognitive dissonance because I haven't experienced it myself.
What's the problem in LAX, check in staff or gate staff or ?

I thought the LAX staff handled it admirably. It was all a giant pain but they did fine, given the circumstances.
