The menu options in the LHR Galleries First lounges haven't really been complained about.

It's mainly the buffet selections that have been complained about in the Galleries First and Galleries Club lounges.

Yes we made full use of the Champagne bar and JW blue label helped me sleep all the way to HKG with 45 minutes to go. Got say again the staff were brilliant and although hot food wasnt supposed to be available until 6 pm they went out of their way to prepare hot food for us both.

This is my preferred flight so good to know about this option - whats was on the menu?

I dont recall the whole menu but I had a huge beef rib when the meat just flaked off with mashed potato and my wife had a vegtable Thai curry

U r lucky because these r the much complains items from buffet. Because in t3 they have so little flights so no longer bother putting out the buffet.

Having just gone through T3 again earlier this week (I try to avoid T3 and usually go through T5 when I'm heading to London, especially if connecting en route to elsewhere) and lounge-hopped, I can categorically say that unless you need access to noodles, or unless you are relatively claustrophiliac, the BA F lounge has a superior food offering and a far broader selection of alcoholic beverages, including the current Taittinger 2005 offering. Also there's an extensive selection of magazines and newspapers which you are encouraged to take.

Were you on the 6 30pm flight ? I might even do this route again because being able to get a good meal and relax in order to digest everything, then get a great shower before boarding really helped me sleep almost the whole flight.

I've tended to choose the CX F lounge in the mornings because I quite like their breakfast noodles, and I am happy to make my own bacon sandwich rather than having it brought to me by some poor Lithuanian woman earning minimum wages. It's a good place for plane spotting, and at breakfast, I've been willing to forgive their champagne for being NV. However, the other week the champagne was in the fridge but completely flat (one of them was eventually replaced upon request), and the other day, both brands were available on the bench - but at room temperature (yuk!). So I think I'll be going back to BA for future breakfasts.

Catering is much better at the CX lounge compare to BA lounge, even for non noodle dishes. Also the f class lounge have a much better view

Each to their own.

Out of interest, are you an employee of Cathay/Swire, or just an exceptionally loyal supporter of CX? If the latter, well done. If the former, may I suggest that there are more effective ways of keeping us on CX than an automatic knee-jerk defence against any comment that is even remotely critical of the airline.

The 6:30pm flight was a bit early for dinner so I am unable to comment on that (though I was keen to try the beef short rib that they have brought back following the complaints post change of caterer). There was however an excellent teatime cake selection - Victoria sponge cake, scones with clotted cream, madeira cake, carrot cake and one other I didn't get round to trying as it would have required another dosage of sulphonylurea.

I just become defensive to people who have bad taste and judgement.
Go read the BA board and u know how wrong u r

They are neither of them temples of haute cuisine, but must of us have not paid a First Class fare either, and have learnt to get the best out of each - often by visiting both. However, I doubt that any of us can comprehend why the AA lounge is the busiest of the three..

Ah - in a moment of epiphany while gazing out at the NSW dawn, one suddenly realises that the arbiters of aesthetics have dispensed with the need for personal tastes and tolerance of others' views, and have instead replaced it with a reduction down to a simplistic rule: Cathay good, everything else bad.

Ironic really, as I am on an Animal Farm here.

Thing have improved since the catering change several months ago. The menu options in Galleries First lounges (at T5 and T3) never got really bad - it was only the buffet.

Many of the comments centred around the Galleries Club lounges in particular, and the removal of hot food options between 14:00 and 18:00 - this still hasn't been addressed, and is still a cause for concern.

The menu options in Galleries First are really quite good, however, and certainly on a par with the CX First Class lounge offerings at LHR.

mosburger Sep 7, 2013 6:26 pm

I'm actually perfectly happy with the food offerings at both the F and J Cathay lounges at LHR.

What I like most is the caterer showing some imagination in the food spread, say, scones, clotted cream & jam at teatime.

The noodles are a bit bland compared to the ones at the HKG lounges, which is surprising as the cooking staff seems Sri Lankan or from the Indian subcontinent? Still palatable and more choices than in most other airline waiting rooms.
