Sure - rule 80 is the equivalent to U.S. domestic 120.20 or the old rule 240. Basically Cathay just endorsed the ticket over to Singapore for us due to the misconnection. And our bags were retagged automatically as well.

Thought so
Great to hear that they are so helpful
Now I'm really glad I did a separate post here by accident.
Thanks to the forum police for not locking the thread

Much obliged to your post about how they handle passengers
The US needs to take a cue at good customer service even with 2 different alliances cooperating ^
At the end of the day with that kind of service I am likely to purchase and redeem tickets at my carrier of choice in any alliance that treats me well with no worries.
Its getting real ugly at some destination with baggage transfers

Unhappy SOS

So after calling the American Platinum line tonight it got into a heated debate by a know it all agent who said Cathay will under no circumstances
transfer the bag from LAX to Hong Kong to Singapore
The reason being is that the ticket is booked through American
I am starting in San Diego with American Eagle where I fly to LAX then going onto Hong Kong with Cathay

They are claiming that I will have to pick the bag up in Hong Kong and check in all over again because the Singapore Airlines ticket is booked on a separate ticket
just as I had originally feared UGH
I'm thinking to tag the bag to LAX then maybe Cathay will check the bag all the way through to Singapore?

Experts Help !!!!!!!!!!
I'm back to square one!~ sigh or I hopefully have another clueless agent
Complicated!

AA has both a ticketing and baggage agreement with SQ:

http://www.aa.com/i18n/urls/partnerbag.jsp#q-s

But the separate ticket is the issue. I would short check the bag to LAX provided you have enough time to pick up the bag and recheck it with CX.

American says no short checks anymore is that correct?
They said its been a no go since 9-11

One ticket from San-LAX- Hong Kong (CX)
One ticket Hong Kong Singapore (SQ)

Immigration in HK is quick, even for foreign passports. (then again, I can be out in less than 2 minutes with HKID)
You need to go back to the departures area and go through exit control and security-that part is the longest.

As long as the next flight is within the MCT your bag will be tagged to SQ. BPs will be issued at the transit desk.

Perhaps a silly question, but is there any reason you decided not to go down the easy route and just book all the way through to SIN on CX rather than deal with the complexities of different airlines?

Yes
Try booking SQ and CX and American Eagle out of one FF account on one ticket on miles In/On two different Alliances!

Latest word is unless American can short check the bag at check in on Eagle to LAX it looks like a no go
I will have to play games in Hong Kong at 5:45AM in the morning
Its a wonderful time to go through security all over again just to get my bags through to Singapore SIGH
