Ba pey = cx
On their new A380 they selected CX's version of PEY

Uh, no. This is not a new PEY product for BA and they've had this product on their 777-300ER aircraft long before CX introduced PEY.

Just the headrest and the back shape is slightly different? |
Yes there are many similarities, as one might expect given that both the products are relatively new, cater to exactly the same market, and are priced similarly.
But, it looks to me that the PEY that's on BA's A380 and B787 are the same as what's on their B773. And certainly, BA has not selected a CX product as their seat predates CX. I've flown both CX and BA (773) on PEY and basically hard product wise they are very similar in design and comfort. If flying HKG-LHR, given a choice between CX PEY and BA PEY (assuming that BA is flying new PEY on this route, which at this time they have temporarily suspended), I would generally choose based on price. On that count, BA usually wins. CX has better IFE, I think. Overall soft product wise, I think BA has a slight edge. |

Maybe when the A380 comes online the novelty factor will kick in for BA |
If the base seat is the same as CX's, BA has been able to make it look much more premium than CX has.

Interesting, as I thought CX would be better on soft product wise. Well that is my experience in both Club World and F where both Hardware and software are much better on CX than BA.
When travelling Y+, it's a toss up really. Neither airline truly excels and at the end of the day, price (BA) usually wins out. BA also typically has markedly better food than CX, which is an important aspect of soft product especially on longhaul where you can't fill up for the whole flight prior to boarding. |

If I was in F, J, or Y, I'd pick CX over BA any day. Fully agree CX wins easily on both hard and soft product.
I fly on CX and BA J several times a year. If I can get a window 747 upper deck BA (especially 62A or K) wins handily for the hard product. The only plus for CX is a larger screen. BA is usually on as soon as boarding but CX is catching up. Food/wine, I prefer BA. service excellent on both. When 747 is removed after introduction of A380, it might be different but cannot tell yet. CX F seat betas BA's by far. CX F food is average and I prefer BA's. CX F service is usually much better given the FA/pax ratio. Both have good and recent PE seats. |

IFE is much better on CX as the selection on BA is limited. Food and catering. It is personal. CX offers more choices (especially mid flight snacks - noodles and soup, salad etc....) For F, The BA catering has gone downhill really bad. 1) No fresh eggs 2) No caviar and balik salmon 3) wines are prob better than CX except the Champange = maybe personal taste 4) Generally bad chinese/oriental selection or none offered 5) No chinese tea BA's F Class service is not bad, on a good day can be even better than CX, on a bad day MUCH MUCH worst than CX. that is the problem. the BA F class seat = joke. Even AA and UA has a better seat than them (incl the new BA F Seat - but NOT this new A380) The toilet on their 744 is small also. |

I looked at some pictures of BA A380's PE cabin on the trip report forum and noticed that its interior is just as typical as CX's PE cabin. Perhaps it's just the better quality of these shots which give you a more premium perception on the BA cabin.

Nope. It's the way BA has styled the seat and finishes.

But ultimately it is the same product and comfort and space level = same?

Not really. Airlines can still customize the seat. E.g. NH who uses the same seat as the base has legrest in every PY seat instead of just the front row on CX.
