Switching FF# CX - BA at gate
I've booked a cheap 'N' fare return SIN - HKG. I'm a GO.
Is there any disadvantage in checking how full the flight is, waiting to see if there's an op-up and getting the benefit of GO and then if I'm not upgraded, changing the FF# to BAEC at the desk to get the 25% avios/tier points on BAEC vs 0 on CX MP?
Also just to confim does the class of ticket make (e.g. N vs V) make any difference to op up chances? I think it's just tier then check in sequence but wanted to check.
Thank you all

I've advised Cathay's management to look into this and in revising the terms offered to BAEC to align the RBD to the rest of the FFP partners.
Therefore, the N class earning in BAEC on CX flights will be disappearing.
Sorry to do this to you FT'ers but costs need to be saved.

No. If you wait till then, the miles will be credited to CX. You must do so before you present the BP for entry For boarding. If you do so after the beep, basically, CX needs to Cancel your boarding, which will hold up the other passengers.
There is a pecking order on how op ups are done. Do a search and you'll see that op ups can be processed as early as 12 hours prior to departure. So if by the time you get to the gate and then change your FFP then, the few minutes difference will not have any bearing as to whether there is a last minute chance of an op up.

if youa re waiting for the boarding gate beep, they would actually have printed ur new BP already - so just before boarding, why dont you just go ask if you'd get a new BP, and if not then feel free to change the FFP... instead of waiting for the lack of beep for changing
