I'm flying to JFK on the 23, and returning on the 28 booked in PE (upgrade award). I had reserved myself 31C for both flights way back when the booking was made. I checked this morning under manage my booking, and to my horror I have been moved!! I quickly called the club hotline, however the nice lady was unable to assign me to 31 A/C again because they are occupied. (She really did try her best because she was gone for 20 mins)
I'm not impressed because I have never been informed or communicated about the seat change. Also I had the seat reserved way back in time. Sure I'm probably not the most profitable DM out there, but I am quite frustrated by this. Seat assignment is a published benefit last time I check. So how on earth did this happen? A more profitable DM demanded the seat and then CX decided to casually move me?
What do you guys think? tough luck? or should I complain?

Maybe that was a baby bassinet seat, and you got kicked out by a baby pax?
They would've probably kicked someone else with a lower status occupying a baby bassinet seat if you were in Y, but since 31C is likely the only baby seat in the cabin since it's PEY, they had no choice even if you're a DM.

Well yeah I figure, so probably won;t lodge a complaint ay. But still I am quite annoyed. Nah 30A/D/G are taken. 32K is available, wasn't quite sure if should pick 30F or 32K.
It'd have been unreasonable of me I had asked to assign me 31A/C last minutes. But this is not the case, the seat assignment was made very long ago.

Wouldn't have made a difference if you assigned that seat ago, or a week ago.
If they need that seat....they will remove you.
They will most likely give you the corporate reply of:
It sucks to be booted out of your seat. You can try asking again when you check in / at the lounge. But there's not much you can do. Good news for you is you'll still be able to select 30F/32k with the tiny bit of "extra legroom".

We will always endeavour to retain your seat selection. However, for operational reasons, we may occasionally have to re-assign seats without prior notice

This happened to me on flight to Frankfurt a couple of months ago. Was in Y and had booked exit row for me and my partner - when it came to online check-in, he had been moved to bulkhead middle and I was on exit row window. Called the hotline and they said it was a computer generated move???? I complained and complained and we got two bulkhead seats next to each other finally (flight was full and they wanted us to sit separately) both of us are CX gold.

The last time I experienced changes in assigned seats is HKG to TPE flight. CX is really playing musical-planes: every week our family of 4, which originally assigned together, are bounced around like ping pong balls when they swap airplanes. All on different rows, despite the fact I told MPO to link us together and 3 of them are on the same itinerary except me.
Luckily I have never experienced being booted off a seat myself, but I have inadvertently booted someone off a seat when at check-in the agent asked me: "are you happy with your seat, I can give you a better one", I was sitting in the back rows aisle, and she made a call and put me in first rows window, the seat I wanted. So I guess CX does play favorites....

I need to do another SIN-YYZ, but I am really seriously thinking if I should go with CX this time.

BR and KE are probably the better alternative, but the problem is BR only flies thrice a week and the timing is not correct for me. Not fancy KE as I have no status on ST.
The fare on TK is slightly cheaper $3,000-ish vs $3200-ish (CX K/V) while TK IST-YYZ-IST are in Comfort Class.
And the flying time on both sector is around 10-11 hours, just nice.
The only draw back is long transit times in IST. 7.5 outbound and 9 hours inbound.
Thinking to do stopover in IST, as I never been there and heard it is a nice city. But not sure if it is safe now.

I booked bulkhead seats on flights this coming Jan and Feb from HK to BKK and back and I just got an email moving me back a few rows (Due to "Equipment Changes", but there has been no change in aircraft. ) Probably someone with a baby needed the seats.
