Op-down

Cx offering 970 Gbp to downgrade business to premium economy on Cx 250 tonight. Imagine they will get enough takers but wouldn't want to be checking in late for this one. Might have considered it if it weren't against company policy to trouser the cash!

Interesting that they are offering it rather than simply doing it. A much more customer-friendly approach.

All the flights from HKG to LHR tonight are rammed following the Lions game last night. BA28 is apparently oversold in J and is currently on a 2 hour delay due to a 'bad smell' in the cabin - and that is before 200 odd rugby fans who have been on the beer for 3 days have gotten on....

Flying back from HK a few years ago just after New Year and was amazed at the cash CX were offering for a downgrade, but that was before they had Y+...

IIRC, it was the cash difference between full C and full Y one way.

(We didn't bite for various reasons....)

Flew CX LHR-HKG a few days ago and check in agent said flights had been rammed all week due to the rugby and school holidays. They had letters printed up explaining the oversell and comp options. I was half-hoping we would get offered it but no such luck.

Just out of curiosity, what's the situation here if you are on a redemption ticket?
Can you take the cash if offered or is it for cash bought tickets only?

My experience on this is that redemption tickets gets offered less than paid tickets which kind of pissed me off.

This happened to me 3-4 years ago on a flight from HKG to JFK. I was on U while my friend was on paid J. Op down was offered with mine being less. I was pissed and I walked.

In my view, a U ticket should be treated equally as a J ticket at the airport and on board, with the exception of mileage accrual and J having the option to redeem for F.

Were the redemptions from CX AM program, or another OW carrier?

Someone I knew was offered to take a later flight once.. and then offered to upgrade them to F class (she was in economy) plus US$1000 cash.

And she refused ! Saying that she really needs to get home.. !
