upper deck question

Hi All,

I am flying CX SFO-HK-SIN-HK-SFO next week and haven't flown Cathay since 2002. My Flight out I am seated on the upper deck which I thought would be fun to try for the first time (when flying Virgin Atlantic last year this was discouraged due to on and off boarding).

I looked at the sticky and it mentioned upper deck was a good choice but was hoping for any insight and thoughts on the experience. I am in 82A. HK-SFO I am in 20K.

Also, I remember how easy it is to get out of the airport but if anyone has anything to share on arriving at 7:00 PM and traveling alone would be appreciated as well.

Best
Sandi

i recommend searching for "upper deck" or "upstairs" in an advanced search, and force it to do titles only. FT search sucks but advance search will get you what you need. definitely will be a better help to you. this question is one of those ad nauseum discussed topics, and i suspect you'll garner only a few posts here because we've all typed our brains out in the past about it. those past posts have tons of info. hope this helps. 82A is in the very front and IMO is a good seat upstairs. the only ones i avoid upstairs are next to the toilet and galley.

thanks so much, I appreciate it. I was diligently looking and searching and had minimal results. This is great!

On my last flight on a 747, the flight attendants were holding back all economy passengers for those of us on top to deplane.

That's normal procedure. J deplanes before Y.

OP gets 82A in one segment and 20K in the other. We are discussing the first segment.

I have been on upper and lower deck. Upper deck is 1-1 configuration, make it quieter cabin. Lower deck us 1-2-1.

So to me if the same as the lower deck you can imagine as 2 side 1-1 and 1-1. Of course upper deck is all window seat, which useless anyway, as the window is behind you.

If u want quieter deck then go upstair otherwise you won't miss much in my opinion.

Upper deck indeed is more quiet. Do prefer seats toward the front to limit impact if traffic going through the single aisle.
I also believe the seats at the upper deck are just a bit longer, could be perception though, but seems like a have a bit more space while sleeping.

Yep upper deck seats are 7-10" longer as they utilise the space where the upper deck side lockers used to be. Upper deck is def better and tend to be reserved first
