Lounge Access
I will be flying HKG-KIX in J, but my grandmother will be flying in Y. We are quite concerned about her being alone in the airport and was wondering if it would be possible to get to her a lounge invitation so that she can be with us. I know MPC members can bring a guest, but are business class passengers allowed to do this?

Unfortunately Business Class passengers cannot bring guests into the lounge.
However, you could both check-in together at the Business Class counter and maybe tell the check-in agent your situation. The agent may even print out an invitation for your grandmother.
Why not even pay for your grandmother to be in J with you?

My tickets were award tickets and I couldn't get a j ticket for her, and so she had to fly in Y. But I was going to check in with her at the business counter and see if the agent would be nice enough to print an invite, I just wanted to know if it was even possible. Usually lounge access is only for an airlines most value customers.

Are you a MPC member? If so, why not use 7,000 miles to redeem for lounge access?
Access to Cathay Pacific Business Class lounges or Dragonair lounges is available for redemption with 7,000 Asia Miles per person. Access to Cathay Pacific First Class lounges is only available for Diamond members for redemption at 10,000 Asia Miles per person. Instant redemption is only available at Cathay Pacific lounges in Hong Kong, London, Paris and Taipei.

As others have stated, you can buy lounge access for 7,000 Asia Miles. You might get a freebie, but I wouldn't count on it.
If you have Priority Pass, you can also invite her as a guest for a fee.
If your grandmother can't be alone at the airport while waiting for the flight and you can't find a way to have both of you in a lounge, then the obvious solution is to sit outside by the gate. If you do online check in, then you really don't need to show up that early...
From a personal perspective, I hope you give your grandma the J award ticket if you are worried about her general ability to cope with travel.

I wouldn't waste miles redeeming for lounge access. I'd just hang out with my grandmother in the terminal.
We tend to fall into the habit of thinking lounge access is the be-all and end-all. But I was recently departing on a flight with my partner, and we met up with another friend who was also flying out of HKG that night but on another carrier. Rather than split up the group just for the sake of one or two of us using a lounge, we hung out in the terminal like normal pax. Guess what -- it was fine. Although we had to pay, the meal from the food court was more substantial than what you get in the J lounges. The free wifi was better. And since even at busy times it's generally possible with minimal effort to find an empty gate area, we were able to find seats more easily than in the lounge at a busy time. If the seats weren't that comfortable, that just argues in favor of not getting to the airport too early.
I don't mean to trash the CX lounges, and there are definitely times when lounge access is an incredibly valuable benefit either for status or for J-class pax. But I wouldn't value it at 7k miles under the circumstances, so if sweet talking the check-in agent doesn't work I wouldn't sweat it.

She will be taking my j seat for sure, not sure if the flight attendants will care if she sits there and not me. I just wanted to know if I was possible to take her in with my mum and I. If she can't get into the lounge then we'll just hang out in the terminal. I just wanted her to be more comfortable in the lounge where there's less noise and better seating

My suggestions/comments:
1. If you are using Asia Miles, try to get her a J award at the airport counter with additional miles. Then all of you can be in J and can have lounge access.
2. I don't think the check-in agent can issue an additional lounge invitation. Even for MPC members, guests will not get separate lounge invitations. However, you can check at the lounge to see if the lounge agents allow her to enter. With the other passengers on J, they may - situation dependent.
3. If you are a MPC member, you can burn 7000 miles for a lounge invitation, but I don't think it is worthwhile. It is easy to spend time in the Hong Kong Airport. You do not need to waste your miles on a lounge invitation.
4. When boarding, you can tell the FAs that you are swapping with your grandmother. You should stay in Y. Visiting the J cabin by Y passengers is discouraged (in fact prohibited).
