CX flights in BKK

Hi FTers,

Just feel curious-is there a reason why the gate for CX flights landing or leaving BKK is so far away from the immigration?

And it seems like even the BKK flights are usually pretty packed in Y, not many op-up opportunities for Silver/Gold as I heard from my friends? Is it an elite-heavy route from HKG-BKK or BKK-HKG?

Thanks!

I think the gate they use are used because it is near their lounges for departing passengers.

Re op-ups depends, I got op up on HKG-BKK in Dec. I would not say BKK is an elite heavy route.

Thanks CX828.

It always seems a long way to get to the immigration or once, the gate for departure is the far end of the terminal. So just thinking..

As a data point, as Gold, my friend has luck with 1 op-up out of 12 fully-packed flights..so just curious...maybe there are many DM?

Last month when I took CX 703 to BKK, we were two minutes from passport control (D2 or D3...cant recall). It was the first time ever that I've gotten so lucky. Usually, it's quite a far walk.

Even the Thai airways flights can sometimes be at the furthest gate from immigration. No rhyme or reason I can see.
The CX HKG-BKK and back flights are usually pretty packed.

Note that all the Oneworld carriers are assigned those wings, ie Pier G or H.

I think I fle HKG-BKK 2 or 3 times and I remember got op up on 1 instance. but most of the equipment is old, so does not matter much to me.
