CX Worth It?
Will be coming back from a trip from Hong Kong early next year and really wanted to burn some miles and try out Cathy's first product. The issue is that I'm ATL based, so I would probably connect in LAX then MIA to get home. My other option would be to fly first/suite class on Korean's A380, connecting only in Seoul and then ending up home in ATL. So, is it worth the extra connection and redeye on a AA in order to try out Cathy? Also, I considered taking Cathy through ORD, which would have elimanted the domestic redeye, but the times didn't work as well me.
Thanks.
Thanks.

The service on CX is great but very crew-dependent but from what I've read KE is at least on par with CX. Throw in the fact that you get a new suite on a new plane on KE (CX's F hard product is now 5 or 6 years old) and again from what I've read in other people's TR, better food and drinks (CX F catering really is rather J-like), even though I am a CX fan, I think the KE would be a better use of miles and time.

Love CX F, but I wouldn't throw in the extra layover. I haven't flown KE in F ( I thought their J was just OK), but this guy did - http://upgrd.com/sitinfirst/korean-a...-to-seoul.html and the suites look the same as CX's to me.

Seems very different to me. Not really a suite, more like a regular F seat with little privacy. Hard to beat CX F suite.
But the itin makes KE more attractive and KE food/wine is better than CX and service equivalent.

I am a big fan of CX and their F seats. They only have 3 across on the 777. Extremely wide. 3 people can comfortably have a meal in one seat, one sitting on the footrest and two on the seat - this is how wide it is. And in many CX F flights I never found a service inconsistency.
Korean seems to have F on the lower deck of the 380, which has about the same width as the 777. This means the seats are significantly narrower - which the pictures from the trip report seem to confirm. My experience with Korean F is with their older seats.
Service is very good on both airlines, but i like the food and service on CX a bit better - but this is a personal preference.
In your situation (assuming there is space available that you actually could choose) I would pick Korean - the reason is the AA flight and the connection(s) in the US. AA is so far inferior than CX or Korean F that i just would want to avoid AA and avoid the connection in the US.

I've flown on the KE A380 in F. Overall I wasn't impressed. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing uncomfortable about it, I just wasn't wow'd. Some examples: F lounge at ICN has nothing special to it. Food onboard was just fair. Service was really not standout (we had flown into ICN on OZ J and I found the service there to be better). You are on the lower deck of the A380 with I believe a small bar in front, plus a bar immediately upstairs which was kind of neat (there was a seating area where you could sit which was neat).
