Help with cx award system and wait list

Hi all

These forums have been very useful and I'm enjoying all the discussions so far. I've tried to read most of the faqs and sticker threads but I'm still having some issues with booking an award flight. I have tried to use expertflyer and award nexus but still not having any luck. Any would be very much appreciated

I'm on the wait list for a flight from HKG to YVR on may 23 and 24 (both cx 838 and 888). I am also a mpo gold member and would like to know what is my probability of getting this flight ?

I also would like to find out the probability of getting an upgrade to J on flight 837 from YVR to HKG on may 13. I booked a y flight through redemptions.

Thank you all in advance !!

You cannot upgrade a redemption award ticket to J.
Your economy fare must be M or higher.

If upgrade to J to YVR, only W and R http://www.asiamiles.com/am/en/redee...nder?WAtxn=794 ?

All 4 flights seem open enough at this point for a Y redemption.

You won't get an upgrade to J because all flights have a Y+ cabin.

Totally forgot there's PEY on this route (even though that's where I'm based right now ) I should stop surfing FT at 3am's....

But regardless, OP - if you're using a redemption award ticket...you won't be able to upgrade to PEY or J using points.

As a GO, chances are you'll probably get cleared as you approach closer to your departure date.

Thanks for the prompt replies

Wow you guys are quick ! Thanks so much for the responses so far. Looks like the chances are better for my return flight from Hong Kong. I will update you guys once I hear back from cathay.

I understand I cannot upgrade to J with an existing redeemption ticket via points or money. However, is there a chance they will give me a free upgrade if there's seats available before take off in business with a mpo gold ? I know it's a stretch....but thought it'd be worth a shot! Is this called an op up?

Chances of you double upgrading are way more slim. You could be upgraded to Y+ but that's about as far as I see you going.

You probably have a higher chance on CX837 return as CX888 connect to JFK and usually when I take this flight, its a pretty full load but CX837 usually less load at that time of the year.

Probably upgrade to PEY. Being GO and taking this route primary, chances of op-up to J from Y is 4/10 times but Y to PEY is about 7/10

@CanucksHKG: would you be able to check if there are redemption seats for cx888 for May 21 (for economy)? my dad is currently waitlisted for that flight and I was hoping to take the same flight as him. Thanks!

Those aren't redemption seat numbers, just overall seats for the whole flight.
Doesn't guarantee you'll get an award seat, but it's good news that there's still seats available on that flight...as opposed to seeing a full flight, where you won't even be able to purchase an revenue ticket = absolutely no chance for award.

You would need the KVS Availability Tool for that, which I don't have access to
