Airport Code for Sapporo

Hi, I dont know whether this is the right forum to post but I just came back from my HKG-CTS trip and noticed that during my outbound flight the handset showed "CTS" as the airport code for New Chitose in Sapporo. But then on my return flight, also on CX, the airport code showed SPK instead.

Does anyone know whether these 2 abbreviations are interchangable or the selection is based on some criteria?

If I remembered correctly, I think during my outbound flight the hanset showed SPK at one time and than later changed to CTS the second time I looked at it..

CTS is code for New Chitose International Airport, and ICAO code is RJCC.
SPK is code for Chitose Airport, which is Airforce base of JSDF, and ICAO code is RJCJ.
Those two airports are adjacent.

Thanks for the info!
I just did some searching on wiki and saw the airport map with both airports adjacent to each other. So is it normal for an airliner to use both codes interchangeably?

I also noticed that the airport is very quiet on my way in and out and then I realized that there's some international flight restrictions on the airport. Very interesting facts indeed.

I believe SPK is also used as the generic code for the city.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 6_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10A523 Safari/8536.25)

I think SPK is referred as the city code for Sapporo, which its primary airport is CTS.

However for OKD (normally also known as SPK) itself also represent an airport in downtown Sapporo which flies to Hokkaido destinations and also an military base. Only ex JAL company HAC flies there

The similar applies for major city like TYO (HND + NRT), OSA (KIX + ITM)
