CX seating assignment

Hello, i booked daughter and wife on cx879 sfo to hkg on march 22 2012 and cx 870 apr 13 2012 return to sfo. I still need to book my seat later when they release more seats. However, i did a dummy booking on cx today and it shows 8/9 seats occupied on cx879 and 7/9 occupied on cx870.

Can smeone confirm through one of your travel tools that the seats are truly occupied? I believe that cx blocks out the bassinet seats but even so, im a bit worried that they may not release the remaning seats for redemption. Im a bit shocked that there are folks paying full fare for them. Or maybe cx opened some up for aia mil members to redeem?

An help is appreciated.

I remember cx used to block 2/9 bassinet seats on their 744 plane but it looks like they are blocking the rear 5 seats now?

Could it be that they plan to change plane to 77w thus only allowing 4 seats to be bookable with the two bassinet seats blocked off? Just speculations from what im seeing.

I suppose you mean 2013? I saw only 3/9 occupied in the outbound and 2/9 occupied in the inbound. However, note that some people do not have advanced seat reservation even if they have a booking.

Thx ernest.

For some reason when i do a dummy rev booking, rows 3-4 were all blocked out.

It looks like seats in tjose rows are blocked as supposed to available for purchase. I wonder why they block them instead of trying to sell them?

I just signed p for expertflyer and looks like row three is black due to handicap accessile and row 4 are premium seats and are blocked off. Besides the bassinet, are they mor desirable than rows 1 or 2?

You are confusing yourself. Reservation and seat assignment are 2 separate things. You can book a seat without having a seat number assigned. Therefore, CX is selling all the seats in F, but not all the seats in F can be reserved. On the other hand, only the bassinet ones are truly blocked, and all the other ones can be selected if you give CX a call.

I called CX and they let me select 2A on a 77W. Along with the usual 'if there's someone who needs the bassinet seat we'll relocate you" warning

Full F fare but my MPC number was not linked at the time.

That's quite an update. Over the past few months since the system migration most members here have been unable to secure bassinet seats even if we say that we are willing to give it up in the event that someone with baby needs it.

Are the bassinet truly that much better? Id imagine any seats on first should be plemty of space?

My wife plans to share seat with infant in 1a a d 3 yo daughter will bw in 1k.
Should we cnsider the bassinet seat even though i thik the f seat will be big enough for wife and infant to share?

I was fairly surprised they'd let me select the bassinet seat too, based on the feedback on this forum. I still figured it was worth a shot since I had to call in anyways (the only open seat on cx.com was 2D even though EF showed only 1A and 1D as occupied). Would have been perfectly happy with 1K had she denied my request though.

I asked the rep to add my MPC number to the booking after the seat assignment was done and she went "oh, okay, so you're Gold? Well I feel better about assigning you to the priority seat!"

People like 2A (a bassinet seat) on the 77W mainly because there's a wall to the right separating the A row to the rest of the F cabin. I don't think it matters so much on the 744. 1A/1K on the 744 are great seats for two people travelling together imo.
